Post subject:  guide to fitting 15x7 steelies from wranglers onto KJ
well i put these on my jeep, had to use a grinder to grind the caliper down a little where it scraped the inside of the wheel

well 30 minutes later the wheels are on no problem at all!

got any pics of the said wheels. I want to see what it looks like and great idea on thinking outside the box and not being afraid to grind the calipers down.

JESUS DUDE!?!?

I am not meaning to critasize but why in the hell would you grind down the calipers of your brakes? Not only did you POTENTIALLY do harm to the strength of the caliper but you just screwed yourself out of any possible warantee or recall EVER!!!!

I will wire up some lights, install a lift and put new rims on BUT NEVER GO MONKEYING AROUND WITH THE BRAKES LIKE THAT!!!!

That is just plain NUTS!

about ..... 1/16" was grind off....and its sprayed black...not only can you not tell that it had been done, it doesnt take any strength off the caliper or harm it

the front calipers are cast steel, they arent missing anything

this is very common on cars when installing big brake kits or larger calipers and not wanting to shell out thousands for new wheels and tires...

plus its not going to do anything to the warranty, putting a lift on the jeep invalidates the warranty 100% more than what i did to the brakes

its really not the big deal youre making it out to be woody :) , its like grinding down the intake manifold 1/16", its not going to harm anything its like a scratch, you cant see it, and wont harm it

Just my personal feelings but the intake manifold doesn't keep your family from slamming into the back of the truck that stopped suddenly infront of you.

Not a risk I would ever take. Just my personal feelings.

no offense taken....i was just relating the type of material they are made of, it honestly does not take any structural integrity away from them.....its not like it was done in a spot that actually pushes the pistons or anything, just the outside edge where it "sharpened" off , its just now a little curved

used to have to do that on different pickups I had, it basically just smooths off the rough casting edges, I have ran trucks for thousands of miles and never a problem at all. Youre not removing a lot like he said only a small amount. Plus sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Doesnt hurt anything!

As a matter of fact Woodys , did it to a 79 Ford Bronco straight from the factory with a noise, per the Ford Regional Rep, (not a sales rep) he stood right there and watched me do it, back in a former life working in a dealership!

You know I am not sure why there are people who want to argue a simple thing like "I personally Think It Is Not Smahrt To Go Grinding ANYTHING Away From The Brake Calipers."

Seams pretty staright forward to me. And also personally I would not follow the guidance of anybody from Ford, Much less a sales Rep when it came to my brakes. Just silly i guess, but there is a HUGE difference between the big cast iron caliper housings of a Ford Bronco and the potentialy a bit smaller ones for the KJ. Besides, I still think it is rather stupid to alter the brakes on your vehicle to fit wheels smaller than those it was designed to take. JMHO.

And that is what it is AN OPINION!

this isnt bad for the vehicle....your opinion counts sure, but you made statements earlier saying this voids warranty and its going to harm the vehicle and kill families etc...

tom and i are just saying that what you are saying is WRONG, and that since this was to inform people of options to get these wheels on, i dont see how your opinion matters anyway, i dont want them seeing your concerns and thinking this is going to make their car unsafe

if you are so concerned with warranties and safety of your family, why the hell would you lift your jeep and increase its chance to tip over..... thats MY honest OPINION


ps. you really need to learn how to spell, another opinion of mine
