I'm currently running 255/70/16s on stock rims, they perform well but I want extra wall height. I had 31s on zero offset rims and they rubbed like hell but i think it was the offset that was hurting me. I have a 3" lift, about to do another inch at the front to even it up and want to know how do the 265/75/16s stuff in the guards? I also have an ARB bull bar so less plastic at the front. I saw a KJ the other day with the same tyres and they look great. Any help please? Ash. |

I have them and like em a lot. I have about three inches of lift and stock wheels. There is minor rub at full stuff on the front side of the rear flares and at full lock in the front they rub on the fender liners. I also had to smash the pinch weld down. They do look great |

I run 265/75's(Trxus MT's,31.9" tall) on my KJ,they are mounted on 16x7 steel rims with 4.5" of BS(also zero offset).I also have the front ARB,no rubbing at all in the front. After major trimming of the rear flares I only slightly run on the front part of the rear flare(just so ever slighlt,at least I don't rip them off anymore),otherwise the tires tuck into the rear wheelwells really good.
Sorry I don't have any good pics of the tires stuffed on the other side. |

You will find there's more to it than just chucking them on the KJ and driving |

Depends on the rim!!!! Backspacing is the key. Besides the normal pinchweld, and having to watch the washer bottle pump (broke mine twice stuffing the front passenger to quickly), the only issues I've run across is in the rear. 16x8's have 4.5" BS and the metal lip of the rear fender will chew on mine when at full stuff. If I had kept the Moab or stock rims, Wouldn't have that problem. the extra half inch is just enough though. |

Yes. Its all comes down to Backspacing and the set up you are running. Running any large tyre size is going to have its little problems. In Australia, stevemc is running 265/75/16's on his, CRDSTU runs 265/70/16's and Bjmase is running 235/85/16's, all 32's, each has had there issues with addressing running that tyre size. You will need to run extended bumpstops (or extra ones) to limit travel to stop the tyres from rubbing, also, I know Stu has also trimmed back his flares a fair amount, he also has extended bumpstops, and runs front strut plates as well. Bjmase had to have rear bumpstops fitted to stop contact, I'm not sure what steve has done, but he does change between road and offroad tyres, each has its purpose. I'm still running those exact same 31/10.5/15's and rims as you bought after seeing them on mine and all's great, esp now with my new rear coils and extended bumpstops. I still can get a slight rub where the pinch weld was when on right lock with the whell fully stuffed but, as I said not enough to worry or concern about. Ash with any of these tyres making them work is all in the planning and pre-setup. And remember your 255/70/16's are a lot smaller than even a 245/75/16, so making the jump to the next size up from that, which is already a size larger than you are currently running, is going to take planning. |

Cmohr, I thought BJ was trying to get rid of his 235/85/16 or had sold them:?: (Arn't CRDSTU's 17" LTD rims) Jenko got a set of 238/85/16 then sold them due to size, I think BJ had a better go at running them as he was running them on stock rims. Jenko's now running 265/70/16 (ST's). |

And Yes, I reckon your 265/70/16's are excellent, if I hadn't already had the 245/75/16's I would have gone for them on the 16's, but I wanted to try something different.....The Holy Grail so to speak cmohr |

CMOHR and CDKJ it was definately the backspacing that was killing me with the 31's. It rubbed on both front and back flares and that was only getting in my driveway (mind you it's a mean drieway). I'm due for a new set very soon and I think I will be divorced if i go and spend another $1500 on boots for the car and they don't fit. I have done the pinch weld, I have cut and hacked the front plastic bits already and I am about to lift the front a tad to level up with the back. I want to go as big as I can and keep the car drive-able, any thoughts and/or suggestions that would be a safe bet? I want LT/MTs BTW, prob Micky T MTZs again. Those buggers really gripped well. Why are these cars so tough to fit rubber..? |

You can't run 265/75/16 on stock rims without a lot of rubbing (& that's only on the road), you can add wheel spacers but that's a big no no in NSW. What is the back spacing on your steel rims? (not offset). If you don't know & still have them I'd suggest you measure it, we can talk about that then (Cmohr has more lift than you so that's probably one reason his work OK). If you didn't know we have a Downunder section here on LOST, where we try to help each other out and do stuff together. Remember LOST isn't the same as AJOR (which is great). |

Yeah, I have started to notice the "heat" from all that have a solid front axel on the site Any hoo, I'll look up the OZ section however in the meantime I have made a decision on the tyres. I still have the 31x10.5x15s sitting at the side of my house looking for something to do. I was going to sell them but have been in two minds about it but after much thought and talking with the guys from King Rims I am going to get the offset changed on the rims and keep them (there are guys here in Sydney that do that sort of thing). The tyres and the rims are a great combo however I am 110% sure that if the offset is bought in a little they WILL fit, question is now..... how much? The rims are currently at zero offset. Any idea guys on what off set will fit the 31's? |

Getting the backspace changed You will need to be carefull on your choice of backspace, the 15" rim is very tight as it is. I recall looking into it myself but I can't remember how much backspace is OK. |

CDKJ wrote: Getting the backspace changed 4.5" or less of BS for 15" rims to fit on a KJ.For 13x10.50's I would go with a 15x7 rim to help reduce rubbing,a 8" rim is a bit to wide for 10.50's.Black 15x7 rims here in the states run about $35-$40 each(depending on where you buy them),I paid $38 each for 15x8 rims for my SFA swap(35x13.50 Toyo MT's mounted on them).

I'm not sure just how much more backspacing you can go with the 15's, I noticed that my calipers are already close enough to the rim, you may get another 1/4 of an inch but, would be very careful, about altering rims for offroad use, I have used altered rims on road, on my old mini, but that was a long time ago and as I said, onroad. Best bet is to put one of the 15's back on, measure the clearance from the caliper and then show that to the place that can do the alteration. Another idae is to see if someone can do a new wheel alignment with a castor adjustment that pulls the wheels forwards, that can give you extra clearance from the pinch weld. Big bumpstops in the back stop the rubbing and guard/tyre damage there. To see some pics, check out my thread in the "KJ 4x4 Discussion" area about my install of new replacement rear coils, there are some pics there of the rear bumpstops. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=30211 Seeing you are also thinking of getting more lift in the front, that in itself coulds solve the rubbing issues you have, and seeing you still have the tyres lying around, would make sense to see if you can get them to work, as you will probably have to do the exact same things to make any other large size tyre combo oto work as well. You did definately get the 7inch rims and not the 8 inch rims Ash???? Just asking , because if they did supply you the wrong ones that would explain everything. |

I asked for exactly the same tyre/rim cinfig as you have so I am guessing they are 15x7s.... will double check though. I do remember now that it was bloody close between the rim and the caliper but I will throw them back on and have another look, did i read that you mentioned 4.5 backspace on AJOR....? I have ordered my sway bar disco's from the states (and a power module for the CRD What do you think CMOHR?.... Anyone? |

Yeap saw you can get 4.5 backspace in the States, and the boys here say they fit fine. I did ask the King guys for the 4.5 backspace originally, but, they said they didn't have them in that size, so I test fitted the 3.5. How much do they want for altering the rims???? I'll be at Camp Coff's on my 31's next weekend, so there'll be plenty more pics of them soon. |

Sorry for the delayed post but pretty hectic atm with relocating our business to a new office..... any hoo... I did check and yes they are the 15x7' rims. I also rang the guys that alter the offset. They are called Morton and May an ddo a lot of this stuff and apparently are very good dealing with speedway and V8 Supercars wheels. Per rim to change the steelies I have will cost $60, not bad really. I was expecting more. I'm going to try and find the time this week to put the front rims back on and measure how much room i have. From memory there isn't musch from the caliper to the wheel but we'll see how it goes. I also received my Jeepin' by Al front sway bar disco's today. Might put them on at the same time. |
