| Post subject: | UPDATE! Freshly Frankenlifted. Now have MOAB Rims |
First off, I just installed my Frankenlift II. Here is a picture of my wheel. I would like to get a slightly wider tire and most deff taller. I have an 03 sport. What would you guys recomend me to do within reason? Well I just picked up a set of 5 MOAB rims. now I just need the boots. Please help me out. Can you give the size of your rims and tires. And wht is back spacing and stuff like that. I am unsure. Thanks L.O.S.T Crew |

the rim choice is up to you which there's 3 stay stock get 16 x7 w/4 inch BS get 16x8 W/4.5 BS AS FOR TIRE A 245/75/16 WILL FILL IT IN NICE, but you may have to do some trimming & pound down the pinch weld |

The 245/70/16 you picked is only a 4 ply passenger tire and barely taller than the stock tires. Look at the 245/75/16 it's a LT truck tire,( 30.7" dia.) and they will fit your stock rims, just pound the pinch weld over flat. |

i really like my MTRs and also the Big O i had. Maxxis bighorns are also a really good tire that will last as long as the MT/Rs. 245/75/16s would be the best way to go on your stock rims. this is why you get tires after your lift though and not before. ive seen so many people do this and end up having to rebuy tires before they are wore out enough to change.. i know the stock tires are crap but this is kinda wasting money imo. im not dissing you in anyway so please dont take it that way. your lift looks great! im sure you will be really happy with 245/75/16s. PS i also had my baljoint stip on me the first time i put a lift on my KJ. unlike yours it was the baljoint stud and not the nut so i had bigger problems. it was also when i was putting it back on so it sucked to have the whole lift almost on and that happen. |

WOW that sucks. That is like telling a child that you can have that candy, but just as he tast is, you tell him no. Man If that was me, it would have FLIPPED! Thank you guys for your input. I did not realize the 245/70/16 were smaller. I was thinking about pounding the pinchers when we had the wheels apart, but it was getting dark and we had a long cold day. I am going to continue to drive on my BFG's for a few more weeks untill I get new tires. I hope by then the Lift will settle a bit and all should be ok. I think I am going to go with the 245/75/16 |

There's also 16X8 5" backspacing like the Moabs that many of us run. 245/75R16's go perfectly with them with a Frankenlift II. I went with Wrangler Silent Armor load range C tires with mine.

A friend of mine was the Grabbers in a 255 size (that was the stock width.) He says they are really bad in the snow. Deep snow they were good for him but normal snow/ince on the road they were bad. stopping, starting, turning. |

yeah...very little siping too and what's there only goes 50% through the tread. It not a multi-compound tire either which means in the real cold, the rubber gets particularly hard (like lots of AT tires), thus making the snow and ice an even bigger problem. One of the reasons Grabbers have the holes predrilled to install studs. they can be very problematic to balance as well. some place can't balance them at all, and other have to go back for balance 2-3 times when they are new...OTHERS however, have zero problems with them and never have anything but great things to say about them...I gotta say though, that for cheapie tires, the Grabber's LOOK like kick as meats...their design team has their finger on the pulse of what offroaders are looking for in an AT design...the compound, weight factor, siping could be a lot better though...but again, they would probably cost alot more in the end if that were changed. |

On Ebay there is a place called Patriot Tire. They sell the Bighorns for a reasonable price. Either 245/75/r16 or 235/85/r16 was $525 to my door..... |

They're expensive, but I must say I'm impressed with the Wrangler Silent Armors. They're the best tires on a Jeep I've had so far out of the Goodyear Eagles (horrible), Bridgestone Dueler AT 693 (not much better), Goodyear Wrangler SRA (horrible), Michelin Cross Terrain (very smooth and did well on the road including rain, light snow, and ice - terrible off road and in deep snow), and Firestone Destination AT (good all around for the money for 2 winters but wouldn't have wanted them for the 3rd because the siping was completely gone and had to use 4 FT just for rain by then). I don't know how long they'll hold up, but the SA's obviously have the best traction out of any of the above tires. They ride very well for how aggressive they are, and do extremely well in rain, light snow, deep snow for us here (6+ inches), and ice and slush. The KJ had no problem with my driveway when it was a solid sheet of ice, even though I had to hang on to the brush guard just to walk across the driveway. Handled the ice storm very easily. I've only had them in a little bit of mud, but they handled it easily too. Never done any trails with them, so I can't comment on that. I got them balanced with the little beads that go inside the tires, so absolutely no balancing problems either. |

instead of starting a new thread, i figured i would ask in here. well when my tax return money comes, im getting my rancho shocks and OME HD springs. whats in a frankenlfit that makes it a frankenlift? i know theres bumpstops, preassembled etc... and a 3/4" spacer in the front assembly along with the OME HD spring, but is there a special top plate or is it the regular OEM one? the reason im asking is because i dont have the money to get a full frankenlift, so im just getting the shocks and springs seperate, i already have an extra set of OEM top plates. i just didnt know what was included in the franky to see if i would be able to add parts later to turn it into one, thanks! |

You gotta shop around if you cant but it all at once. Thats what I did. I bought the front strut towers off a guy on here and bought the rest from heather at boulderbars. I did not buy the A-arms yet. after I get new combat boots for the KJ I will do the A-arms Selling stuff on ebay now to get enough for my new boots. |

as soon as my MTRs wear out this is the route im going. i might go to a 235/85/16 then as well since i should be regeared and locked by the time these tires wear out and who knows maybe even have a 4" lift or SFA |
