This topic always brings some "discussion, with some saying you can only run M/T's and most saying you need to decide how you will realistically be using the tires. Once you have that, you can narrow the field.

I have never heard a bad thing about the Cooper S/T, though.

depends on where your from....I am from south dakota....just an open fields and when it rains its gets muddy. I run 245/75/16 goodyear mtr's. The tires make some noise but im so used to it i barely notice. M/T if you ever are going to be out on back roads ie. once a road but now is just a grass path with deep holes and ruts. I got stuck once with the stock SRA's and then I got the mtrs and have been through the same hole that I was stuck in multiple times no problem. I guess in the end its your choice if you can live with the noise get an m/t if all your doing is hwy get an a/t

just thought of something as well. The MTR's that I run really are not a M/T but they seem to working for me so far. I have 41 psi in my tires and rotate them around every 3-4000 miles. I bought them used from Rock Lizard with a little over half the tread a few months back. I put over 14,ooo miles on so far and the tread is wearing nicely. Really its your choice tho if I could redo it I would have bought them new but they were a great deal so it was worth it.

If you drive on icy or snowy roads or want the best wet road traction I would avoid muds unless you really need them.

I am very happy with my General Grabber AT2 in all conditions and you can't beat the price.

I run the Kumho KL78 in a 245/75 r 16. Have had these on 3 XJ's and now 2 KJ's. Maybe 8 sets total.

I LOVE EM!

Great in the rain on streets. Great in snow. Great on the trail. NOT MUDDERS by any streach but Very capable of handling a muddy trail with in reason.

At about a C note per tire plus mounting and balancing, tax, disposal fees, shop fees EPA crap....

They are a good value for the buck if most of your driving is on the mean streets and not trails but still wanna have fun.

Ask Tommudd, he has them too. Many others also.

Yep, that's why I said ST's, IMO they are a great AT (hard core AT  ) but still not a MUD (ie: STT). But as the other's said it depends on what you want it for, and that should decide what your after.

Nokian Vatiiva A/T may be the best A/T-Snow tire out there. I do not have them, but began noticing them this winter ( we get a little winter here, too  ) and they seem to go,turn, & stop very well. The make the SR-A's look like slicks.

Good year wrangler silent armours are outstanding for a a/t tire on snowy and icy roads(pricey tires though). I have had mine for over a year now and work well. I would look at www.greendiamondtire.com which are retreads that contain carbide that grip the ice. Check them out anyway they ar a bit pricey for retreads but good on the enviroment.

Definitively the best for bad weather in an AT....I have them and they are bar none the best AT for adverse weather. Google Nokian and you will be blown away by the reviews, the specs and the quality of these. They drive 118 mph with these Nokians on ice fields as part of their testing...nothing on the market compares to their results...stopping, cornering, inclines, declines...etc.... this AT is the real deal for snow, wet and ice. Also google Hakka siping....its killer.
