I am considering going to a 15 instead of a 16 wheel. Is this a good idea? If not, what problems does it cause? The tires I am looking at come in a 15 and a 16 but the 15s are way cheaper, and I am already getting new wheels (the 15 wheels will be cheaper too).

Any steel 15" will fit, however there are only a select few 15" aluminum wheels that will fit, which of I am not familiar with. Someone else should be able to chime in with details.

Just do your homework on it, what fits on one KJ may not fit on yours. If you can see if the tyre place will do a test fitting for you that way you can see what exactly is going to work on YOUR KJ.

I think over there it's thje soft 8's you need. Go for the 15x7's with 4.5 backspacing as the 15x8 will cause grief. Tyres you can run 31/10.5/15's or 30/9.5/15 You will need a reasonable lift, bash down the pinchwelds, and, use extra bumpstops.,

So does a 15X7 fit? I can see maybe a 15X8 or bigger might not fit, but is there another reason why a 15 wouldn't fit?

not sure on which size or styles are ok but some of the guy's have tried a few here & they didn't fit due to the BRAKE CALIPERS hitting the rim

hopefuly they'll pipe in

So did the wheels hit because the rim was too wide? Like a 15X8 or more?

The KJ was designed for 16" rims so the brakes(front brakes) are bigger.OEM 15" rims(from any other Jeep) will not fit due to the BS being to much and hitting the tie-rod ends, all other 15" rims that fit may have 1mm-2mm of clearence between the rim and calipher.BS has alot to due with it and rim design, some fit and some don't,plan and simple.

If they have no more then 4.75" of BS then yes they will. The soft 8's are a known 15" rim that fits.

Oh and you will need 2 pairs  .

what about the 15x8 soft 8s with a 4" BS? does anyone run these? i would like to run 30x9.50s with the option of going to 31" later. 15" wheels are just so much less expensive as are the correlating tires. i also like the 4" BS b/c doesnt that give me a little more room from the wheel well? but if they dont work ill have to do some more looking around.

15x7 rims will hold those 9.50's and 10.50's alot better then a 8" rim will, and you will have less hassle with the 7" rim.A 8" rim should be saved for a 12.50"+ tires.
