Conventional Wisdom says that the 12.50 should go on at least a 8" wide wheel, even if the manufacturer will tell you that they have to go on a rim that is at least 8.5" wide. It seems that many 12.5" tires are measured on 10" rims.

Some people from another board with much more experience than I have have told me that 8" is the narrowest for a true 12.5" tire. Any narrower would cause poor wear, if nothing else. It looks like the tire would wear the center out.

I'd also check the specs of any tire I wanted to run to see its actual specs. There is a lot of variance in tires that are supposedly the same size. You could also run the metric version, which is generally narrower. The 285/75/r16's on my '79 are 33" tall, but only about 11.5" wide.

You will need a 8" rim at least.A 12.50" tire will work best if offroading on a 8" rim and hold the bead better if aired down.

I have a set of 35x13.50's mounted on 15x8 rims waiting to go on my KJ.

Looks good and I'll be able to air way down on the trails with the 8" rim,but most steel 15x8 rims actually measure closer to 8.5" if not 9".
