Yup, I'm still researching tires. Right now I'm considering the Cooper Discoverer S/T in a 245/70/R17. This size is available in either a P-metric (STD) or an LT (Load rating E). Even though the E rated tire is probably overkill, it may suit my needs better. Most of my offroad driving is on desert mountain trails where loose and/or sharp rocks are the norm. My biggest concern is sidewall punctures. The overall dimensions do vary slightly in section width but with an overall diamater of 30.4 inches, both are slightly shorter than most other brands in this size. So, the question remains; P-Metric or the LT? Your opinions would be appreciated. Thanks |

E rating better on sharp rocks etc heavier but better, check to see how much more they weigh just out of curiousity, but would still go E |

A LT tire should be on a Jeep anyway,the LT stands for Light Truck,the "P" tires are for passenger cars,hence the "P". I would be looking for a 3-ply sidewall at least for where you drive,better then any 2-ply sidewall tire. |

Thanks guys. I was hoping that the E wasn't overkill for the KJ. I emailed Cooper for the weights this morning. Just waiting for a response. I saw while searching other forums that Cooper provided the weights for a larger size of the S/T. If I recall correctly, both were in the 40 to 47 pound range. That puts them in the same range as other A/T's and less than some M/T's. I'll post their response when I get it. |
