So whats the deal with Wallyworld's GoodyearMT/R'S? I mean there are 2 MT/R'S with a $55 diffrence. I called and was told that 1 is white lettered, and 1 is not. They said it was the only diffrence between the 2 tires. I just can't see a white lettered tire being $55 more expensive.

Has anyone bought the MT/R's from Walmart? And are they the same as some other dealer's MT/R's?

Wal-Mart has a strict policy of not mounting any tire larger than what the vechicle came with stock. Go elsewhere for tires!

No problem mounting them on the wheels, though... AND you CAN get road hazard AND life time rotation and balancing.

walmart gets "special" tires from the manufacturers for sale only at WM, and I've read/heard they are not as good a quality. WallyWorld specials. Did you laugh in the guys face when he told you it costs $55 more per tire for raised white letters...that's absolutely comical. same amount of rubber, black ones still have raised letters, just not painted white...that's some qualtiy white paint on those suckers.

The letters are not painted, the rubber is died white, actually has a layer of white rubber under the black.

I also have heard that the tires sold at walmart are lesser quality due to walmart will only buy stuff at a set price and then the tire company needs to make the tires cheaper to meet that price, same for all stuff sold at walmart.

Well we are talking about Walmart I can't forget that. It seems too good a price to be equal quality to other MT/R's.

Just wanted to ask first though. You never know.

Guess I will go with option #2-Dayton Timberline's.

I was looking at those Kumho's too. I'm just not sure they would be the right tire for me. Cool tread design on them. Wonder how they perform?
I think the Timberline is going to be my tire.

But then again the Maxxis tires look tempting also.

I hate picking out tires. Its like getting new shoes, they look great in the store but when you wear them, they're just not comfortable. 8)

I ordered my Goodyear MTR's online from Wally World. They are the real deal, not seconds or cheaper quality. For $155.00 each with free shipping to the store, too good of a deal for me to pass up. Had them mounted to my AEV wheels which were not on the Jeep. Tomorow I will post the sticker off of the tires.

I don't know if it still holds true but I remember about 30 to 35 years ago my father relating a story to my godfather that Sears had set such high standards for their private label tires, that Firestone threw up their hands and said "No can do" and backed out of the 5 year contract bid for Sears.
I do know for a fact that several companys are so demanding and make the manufacturer eat their goods returned for what ever reason they decide. What I came to refer to as the "WE SAY SO WARRANTY" In fact when I ran a paint sprayer warranty and repair shop I had received from a local Sherwin Williams store what the refered to as a CHARGE BACK. This was the result of a sprayer brought in for repair that was not a warranty situation, it was plain and simple abuse and lack of maintenance by the painter. After informing the Sherwin Williams manager of this he issued a Purchase Order for the repair. 60 days later ( they never pay within the terms) , I received the invoice with a charge back saying they had decided it was warranty and would not pay the invoice. I called the Store Manager and said I had 5 machines from his store in my shop and his store was now placed on COD CASH Only. His responce was, " You don't know who your dealing with I'm Sherwin Williams". My responce was congratulations "I'm Vern's Airless Repair and not that we had formaly introduced ourselves he was still COD CASH ONLY and the sprayers in my shop would not be released until all invoices for his store was paid and the sprayer in the shop had also been paid for whether the repair was done or the estimating charge of $25.00 as a bascket case the sprayer disassembled in the box or $50.00 for the sprayer reassembled as it came in the door. The manager started using many colorful metafores umongst them questioning my parentage and confusing me with Odipus ( Having Carnal Knowledge with my Mother) I informed him the next sound he would here would be the dial tone. He tried to send customers directly to me to get their sprayers I told them of the estimating charge , but proceded to assist said customer in getting a new account with a competitor paint store. So it also back fired on SW I had a lot of fun at SW's expence.
But this is common practice with many big box stores, that for instance is why if you go to HOME DEPOT you see a GRACO paint sprayer thats entirely different then one you will see in a Sherwin Williams Store and different yet from a Glidden, PPG or other paint store Home Depot's are tinker toy sprayers that Graco designed for the non proffessional and in some cases are not worth the money. SW's are closer to a quality sprayer but they also have some that are cheaponed with so as to offer a lower price but is not apples to oranges. As the old saying goes IF A DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS"

It seems like if they put their name on it they wouldn't want them to be less of a quality. Reputation and all, ya know.

I remember about a year and half ago I bout a MTR for my spare so it matched what was on my rig. I got it from tirerack.com and they had the same deal. The blackwall one was 50 bucks or so cheaper then the white lettered one. It was legit and wore just the same. But when I went to get new MTRs they no longer had the cheaper black wall ones and that is how I ended up with my BFG ATs. :( So I would say this deal is good from Wally World!

A quality company (Goodyear) would never sell a product (MT/R) through Wally World that was a cheaper quality version. It would tarnish their name. If they wanted to sell a cheaper product they would manufacture tires for Wally World and let them put their name on it. Wal Mart keeps their prices down by not charging the companies whose products they sell a stocking fee or other charges that most retails stores charge. In return Wal Mart asks the company to sell them their products at a lower price and that way they can sell the goods to the consumer at a lower price. Everyone wins. The producer sells a lot more of his product, at a slightly lower price, Wally World gets a deal on products they want to sell, and we get a good deal on tires, TVs and Legos.

I went to Sears last nite and they will even do a price match with WalMart, AND BEAT IT BY 10% TOO!!! Now thats cool.

I have found Sears to be one of the best places to deal with.

Now I can't wait to get them........

I have bought several sets of BFG's through Sams Club (my wife works there), they had to be ordered, and have been fantastic. Sorry they were cheaper and not some crappy knock off.
