Lifts, rubbing and tire size.

An interesting thing happened on the way home from the tire store....

I have the 2.5" Frakenlift and just replaced my Big-o AT 245-75-16 tires with Dunlop Rt of the same size.

My Big-os used to rub on the swaybar at full turn. Now... the Dunlops dont do it... infact, there is about 1/2" gap where ther used to be rubbing!

I guess this means the new tires are thinner ?

Well, I like the fact that all rubbing is gone now.

put ten say 245-75X16s next to each other and you will have ten different heighths/ width/ etc, no two manufactures are the same even if the tire says it is the same, some treads are flatter and some more rounded as well, can be a big difference at times

I think you are right Tom.
That is why this forum is so useful to owners... you have to rely on other peoples experience to find out info like this !

The 245 is the section width - i.e. the widest point of the tire -
the tread width normally isn't reported and will vary significantly
but it's the tread that scrapes sway bars and wheel wells.

Ya ATXKJ, I see what you mean.

The dunlops have exactly the same tread width as the old Big Os, in my case.
It looks like, in my case, it was the way the tread transitions to the sidewall tha t differs.
It must have been this location that was rubbing before.
