Has anyone used, or rode along with someone using these tires? Cooper Discoverer ST/C? They look pretty nice, but one of my buddies is looking to get them, and he wanted to know if they are worth it. |

I've heard great things about the STTs, and mostly good about the STs, but I've never heard or seen the ST/Cs. Probably expensive right? They're aggressive but not Cooper STT aggressive, so they're a comprise. They probably do great all around but are just alright in the mud. The Coopers STs are supposed to wear well, but I heard they get loud so the ST/Cs probably get loud too. That being said, they look like a pretty tough and good all-around tire. I really like their sidewalls

ST/C's are the Cut and Chip resistant version of the ST. Deeper tread, but, more so, you find the tread blocks flex more, so on rocks and whatnot they don't just chip and break off, which was the fault with offroading the ST. Heaps of the guys Touring through the Outback here in Aussieland, swear by them as a great tyre. |

ST/C is the same tread pattern as the ST, it's made from a different compound that's built to withstand chips and so forth. They are not for every day diving, if you drive in the outback and travel on corrugated roads / shale and the like, then this is the tyre for you. |

I tried to get some of the ST/C tires here in Tucson.... they were special order and the local reps just did not return my calls for quotations. Also... they are pretty heavy,,, 45 lbs for the 245-75-16 each, I believe.( BGF ATs are 50 lbs each) I ended up getting a similar "hybrid" type MT / AT from Dunlop. The Radial Rover RT (40 lbs each). Discount Tire has them in their computer ordering system, and were willing to bargain down the price. Sears also sells them... as does the Tire Rack (good reviews). (weight? Spinning up 5 x 4 extra pounds is like having an extra 200 lbs in the car to accelerate) |
