Alright so my question is. How does backspacing work. More is better, Less is better what? The higher the back spacing the better it is or no? I thought the lower it is the better ex. 2.5bs is better than 4.5 because turn radius or what not. Someone please correct me if im wrong. |

Well, it looks like you could use some help with backspacing. The stock rims have 5.5" backspacing. This means that there is 5.5" between the back edge of the rim and where they mount. The Moab rims have 5" backspacing. This means the back edge of the Moabs end up 0.5" farther out. Add that to the Moabs being 1" wider, and the outer edge of the rims end up 1.5" farther out, for about a 3" wider stance from outer edge to outer edge. Typically on a KJ, you want to stay between 4.5"-5.5" backspacing. If going less than 5" backspacing, you should try to stick to a 7" wide rim or you'll run into some serious rubbing. If you're lifting it, the stock 5.5" backspacing may cause some rubbing issues on things such as the sway bar. There are people running outside of these general guidelines, but it typically takes a lot more trimming. Just running 245/75R16's on Moabs with a Frankenlift requires some trimming. |
