Post subject:  Looking for new tires
I have a 2.5" Rusty's lift on an 04 Sport, w/ 16" wheels. Trying to find what is the largest (tallest) tire I can rung, that will require minimum trimming but will also offer good flex. Also do not plan to regear. I have looked at a couple of the charts posted on here and one was for BFG and another came from the JP site but I want to verify with some "experts" before buying. well you can fit up to a 265/75, but that will require a good amount of trimming, I went with 245/75 bc it is a little smaller but is also less trimming and not quite as much power loss

Thanks for the reply. I'm really thinking about the 245/75s from Tread Wright. I've read pretty good reviews on there from different forums on here. Another question I have is if I do plan on staying with stock wheels for now will I require spacers to minimize trimming or should they fit okay with minimal rubbing already.

spacers will make it worse
I only had rub on 1 pinch weld and on the lower fog lamp doors
running that tire size on the oe wheels with OME suspension

Frankenlift 2.5" and 245/75R16s:
Spacers made things better for me. I had rubbing on the swaybar, upper control arms, body by the swaybar, and on the body in the rear. 1.25" Spidertrax on all four corners fixed ALL of that, period.

thats what I did, I dont have them on just yet hopefully tomorrow but I got the M/T and they are really nice looking I cant wait to get them on!

Talked to another buddy of mine and he said that 265/75 should be fine with a just some trimming on the inner side plastic fender and pounding of the pinch welds. Does this sound right. He owns a YJ but has been in the Jeepin business for a while. Just want to verify with some KJ experts.

I dont know about "just some trimming." I've seen Moose's KJ up close and personal with his 235/85R16s and the amount of cutting he had to do was "moderate" to say the least. Now that's a narrower tire (smaller diagonal cross section) but still the same height. I would imagine the 265/75s (1.5 inches wider, same height) would result in considerably more rub.

IF I WERE YOU and just looking for minimal work, stick with the 245/75R16 of any flavor. You will probably want to flatten the pinchweld and MAYBE some front fender massaging. The 32's are cool, but don't appear to stuff as readily as a 31" tire.

What year is your KJ? The 02-04 require a bit more trimming than the 05-07's. The other issue is your lift. I had minimal trimming running a Frankenlift and 265/75's on my '06. But the Frankenlift gives a bit more height than most other lifts.

Depending on your year, you should be able to run 32's with a 2-3 ring clevis lift up front and an extra iso pad or All J's spacer in the rear, even with the Rusty's Lift. The other thing to watch is the back spacing on the rims you run. That makes a lot of difference on rubbing too.
