At 10K miles I ditched the original 16" CRD wheels and tires in favor of brand new 17" Jeep Oasis chrome clad wheels (off ebay) and 245/65/17 Destination A/Ts. I love them but I have had them balanced twice and neither time they have been balanced properly.

Since the oasis wheels are chrome clad, they are comprised of a chromed plastic face which is bonded to an aluminum/magnesium wheel. In the center, behind the center cap, the hole in the plastic face is of a smaller diameter than that in the aluminum/mag wheel itself. This design flaw presents itself when you try to mount the wheels on the balancer. The tapered hub centric cones will not allow the wheels to sit on the balancer properly. The situation is as follows:

The larger size tapered hub-centric cones bottom out on the plastic face before contacting the aluminum wheel because the smallest diameter of the cone is larger than the opening in the plastic face.

The largest diameter of the smaller size tapered hub-centric cone is smaller than the mating surface of the mag wheel.

For lack of a better solution, the wheels were "balanced" by centering them on the chromed plastic face.

I can infer from the poor balancing jobs that have been done, that the plastic faces are not perfectly centered with respect to the wheel itself.

Does MOPAR have a special hub-centric cone that they use?
Has anybody had similar experiences? problems? solutions?
Did I purchase fake, knock-off Oasis wheels on ebay? They have Chrysler part numbers on the backs of the wheels.
For a while I have dealt with the minor vibration but it's really starting to irritate me now. PLEASE HELP!

Will they interfere with the TPMS system? And any info regarding whether or not they damage the internal surface of the tire over time?

put the 16" OE wheels back on
I run OE wheels on both Jeeps and no problems
the TJ gets beat up out on the trails and I can balance Super Swampers on the OE wheels
the KJ gets its beating more on the streets of New Orleans ,pot holes and sinking streets ,there are spots where cars drag bottom
neither has ever had wheel problems ,TJ 6 years and KJ 5 years
now I have had tire problems ,and that caused a balance issue, on the KJ and it was with MTR's

I can't put the 16" CRD OE wheels and tires back on because I sold them shortly after I mounted the 17" oasis wheels. However, I am thinking about switching to another set. I am having a difficult time finding a set that I like though.

Does anybody have any reccomendations on nice 17" chrome or polished wheels with the same offset, etc? I don't want anything with rivets, etc. because they are a pain to clean.

I contacted the seller and he claims that they are OE Jeep wheels that they had chrome plated. I don't know how much I trust it though...not sure how well the chrome will hold up.
