So, i rotated my tires the other day and now i have a pretty good vibration @ around 65-70mph. Enough to shake the wheel really good. I took it to a tire place by my work and they rebalanced the tires but seemed to think that may not do the trick and told me flat out i need new tires. I knew they were getting low on tread but never really thought about it. So i got back in my jeep and pulled out the original paperwork for my tires. I then called where purchased them to see what they offered for a warranty... 50,000 miles, hmm ok let see here i have 85,400 now and originally i had ~58,000, so thats like 27,400 odd miles. Well below the 50k mark. So they agreed to take a look at it and they have to send the tires back to bridgestone and they have to have proof of rotation, proof of mileage and also have to see that the tire has worn evenly throughout the tire. CRAP!!!! Thats where im screwed, with my lift the front has really worn bad on the outside of the tires. So for the $650-$700 that i spent on these tires may be out the window. I am PISSED! I have rotated these tires every 6,000 and don't think that I drive to aggressive and most of my driving is city/interstate.

So anyone think Bridgestone will honor their warranty? I am thinking i have a 50/50 chance.

Im just really upset that i spent this much and these tires and now they are not living up to their hype. Maybe Ill try and get some pictures of them today and see what you all think..

Sound like alignment issue.

The same just started to happen to my tires. I might dismount the two front tires and mount them with the white letters in (currently the white letters are out) to even out the wear.

once a tire starts to wear it is almost impossible to change the wear pattern. Tire still has to run on the road with the full width so its still going to be wearing. Most people do not rotate as often as they should esp. if doing a lot of town driving

Also, i wouldnt really be trying to "change" the wear pattern more or less even out the tires so that the edge of the tire appears to have worn the same.

I think the issue is when the wheels are fully cocked one way or the other the front tires sit at a VERY large angle in referenced to the ground...

I've corrected wear issues by rotating tires to the back and running them for 5-6k miles. The tires will wear faster when you move them to the back since your riding on the high points until they even out. essentially riding on half the tread in back.

Of course you have to fix the issue with the front suspension or the tires you move from the back to the front will wear the same way. $60 alignment is definitely cheaper than $700 in tires.

yeah understood. Its still frustrating though, if you take the alignment problem out of the equation, the tires did not last to their advertised/warrantied life.

true
but they would have worn good if you did have a good alignment

put it like this those are one of the longer lasting tire that I have run on my F250 ,40K and still good
I run them at near full load all day long I may rotate and balance them once a year when I get an alignment
I keep good PSI and if I notice a slight wear issue I address it

Now on the other hand I abuse the crap out of the tires/alignment on my TJ I let the tires go flat ,it sits for weeks at a time
and I would say 20K is about what I will get out of my LTB's

You should have gotten more
The tire dealer can get them replaced under tread wear if they want the problem is you let them wear unevenly and he can not do any thing about that

Sounds to me like an alignment problem IS the equation.

X2

And that would render any tire warrenty null and void.

my lifted KJ wears tires no less evenly than it did unlifted.

you didn't get your Jeep aligned after lifting it, did you?

When I got mine lifted the tire shop that put the new tires on the next day refused to do the alignment. They told me that Jeep Libertys were a huge pain to align normally let alone a lifted one. I brought it to the dealer for another service and asked them to do it. They told me Libertys are a pain, but they did it without a problem.

I really miss that dealership.

Did you get the alignment checked again after settling?

Libertys are hard to align? Seriously?

What's a pain in the butt to align is a rusty C3 Vette  and that's only because of the rust. KJs are a cakewalk.

Guys I just had this same discussion and it came down to a tire that wasn't rotated every 3,000 miles on the KJ (for in towners like myself) will cause the front shoulders to wear out VERY quickly. My Destination A/T's were showing the same signs that SDs REVO's are showing currently.

The KJ can be within the factory alignment spec and still take the shoulders off the front tires.

My thread on Wear Pattern

Most people do not know how much wear it puts on a tire just running around town. I f you drive 75 % of the time in any town/city then you need to rotate more often. IF you live in say Texas drive a straight road 100 miles to work and back every day then you can rotate every 6 to8000 miles
Also I keep seeing about changing or flipping a tire thats wearing on the inside to the outside or vice versus and it will wear longer THAT'S BS a tire will continue to wear the same due to it contacts the road surface the same no matter what.
For over ten years I managed tire stores, and argued the same point with people then, they don't want to hear that they did not do what they should have done!

Keep your tires rotated and your vehicle aligned
and KJs are no different to align than a 62 Chevy, not any harder, maybe easier as with the KJ you don't have to put in shims in the upper control arm to align it!!!!!!!!!!

I dont know that city driving has much to do with it
our KJ sees 80% city ,we rotate every 5-6K and align every year or about 10-12K
we have very even wear on our MTR's and it looks like we will get about 40K out of them
and that 40K is by my standards ,which probably means that they will easily go 10K more but I like having some meat on the rims so in about 15K I will be looking for some new tires
a properly aligned anything with good shocks/struts ,good ball joints and other suspension parts along with proper psi all the time will wear the tires evenly take any part of this out or make any part bad and you will have tire issues

Yes i did get an alignment after my lift. I didnt get another one because It was a spacer lift and didnt think that the spacers could settle very much.

I agree that the cause of the bad and uneven wear on the outside corner of the tire would be from out of alignment.

I DO NOT agree that because of the alignment that the rest of the tire should have worn this fast. I say that because the tires still have much better tread depth on the inside of the tires.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree but i still firmly believe that these tires should not have worn this fast.

Also this BS that i should have rotated my tires more often because most of my driving is in the city? No way, then the tire shop should have said something about that and they didn't.

Uh, the only time a tire will wear like that is because of an alignment issue. Period, no argument. Do you have Al's upper arms by chance? And maybe the alignment sheets?

How many miles did your KJ have on it when you put the lift on? The spacers won't really settle...but your springs WILL sag.

So you are saying what I am saying is BS
Well look at it this way, a tire shop wants to sell you tires, the faster you wear them out the more they sell.
I went to school to do alignments and brakes back in 1973, my only job for years, still do them at times. I KNOW what makes a tire wear and what can be done to help prevent faster wear. Cornering in town can make a huge difference,
Anyone who says different I call BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also you DO NOT have real Tire salesmen anymore, you have a person who is paid 7 bucks an hour to push a certain brand tire by looking it up on a computer, they know nothing but what they are told to say and do!
so that goes out the window as well that they should of told you! HA!!!!!!!
