buying new tires for the 03 kj i dont do extreme off roading yet but do some, looking for good tires anythoughts of the best ones guys?

that is like asking a woman what is the best shampoo you are going to get 10 different answers The question is "best ones for (put a word here)" no tire will be the "best one" for every thing you need to decided what you want from it off road ,just about any Super Swamper you can fit on road ,take your pick I run LTB's on my trail Jeep ,I would NEVER run them on a DD We run MTR's on the KJ ,DD I have Revo's on my F250 and it gets stuck in wet grass ,and I can get up picks of what it has done to the grass by my house it is heavy in the rear ,about 1000# more than the front so that is not the issue The tires just do not get good traction Now that being said if/when we get another ride I plan to keep the KJ it will still be some what of a DD but it will run some type of MT You can get MT's in a 245/75 in the $120 or less range these will also be load range E which should last about as long as the MTR's will ,40K The MTR's probably ride quieter and smoother than the cheeper tires but no one will be driving it every day so who cares about that besides it is a Jeep |

Kumho KL71s are cheaper and quieter than the MT/R's...I haven't driven on any yet, but the Cooper STT is supposed to be quieter than the MT/R too, and it's also cheaper. Just thought I'd throw that out there |

i'm debating. tomorrow im going shopping for tires. after all the readying and price comparing that i have done. i have narrowed it down to 2. Firestone Destinations AT (245/70/16) General Grabber AT2 (dont know if the same size as the destinations will fit thou). depending on price and where do i find im getting either or. |

I like to think outside the box of other brands that work as well or better than the Grabber AT2s 
But my Kumhos are doing great and a better tread pattern I think than either one of those

I have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's & I like them. They are good on highway, & have been offroad a little. They are better than the discover ATR's I had before & light years better than the Goodyear Eagle RS-A'S that came with it. I had those on my Jeep for a year & it was a bad year. |

banana peels are light years ahead of the Goodyears that come stock!!!!!

I'm telling you! I got stuck 3x in my jeep, 2x in muddy field (on the same day)& once in snow. All 3 times with those tires. |

I never once got stuck with the stock Goodyears. Got stuck a lot with my Cooper Discoverer S/T's and I've gotten stuck a LOT more with my MT/R's "getting stuck" is not a good measure of your tires' ability. If you don't get stuck, you ain't tryin. I've had to be strapped at least once every time I've been wheeling, especially since I started wheeling with guys with YJs, TJs, CJs, XJs, etc on 33s and bigger. I'm gonna agree with tom. If you don't wheel a lot, go with the Kumho KL78 AT's. I tried to talk my dad into them for his Colorado, but he went and got BFG Mall Terrains

Alright, I'm in on this discussion too... I've had my BFG A/T KO's (245/75x16's) for 55k miles and loved them! Great tire. But alas, their time has come. I was hoping to make them last until I sell the KJ, but I'm still enjoying it and have a Jamboree scheduled for Catskills in Sept. And having worn tires was the cause of my sliding off a rock into a tree at the Killington Jamboree! (first time I've ever hit a tree!) So, I guess it's time. So, what's the cheapest tire that's the closest in performance and wear to the BFG's? (I might just stick with them anyway, but wanted to keep an open mind) |

AdamisAdam check out the Kumhos I paid a little less than a 100 bucks each for mine mounted balanced , everything out the door, (255-70X16s) right now they have 28,400 on them and still have 9/32 of thread left measured with a Tire depth gauge. They are not real mud tires of course, but have been in enough mud etc to do a decent job. In that size they are a more open tread and do sing a little out on the road but not as bad as a MTR of course

HHHMMMMMMMM..................... I've never gotten stuck with MT/R's on,they have kicked butt in every terrian I have put them through with ease.They are awesome in deep snow and deep clay mud in SD.I have been through 3 sets between my KJ and my '01 Grand and never had one problem with the MT/R's and have been through some deep mud and very deep snow.Sure they need some good wheel spin to clean out but there is not one MT tire that doesn't need wheel spin to clean out.Though I have a heavy KJ and that really helps with the MT/R's,they seem to preform better on heavy rigs.They last a long time compared to othyer MT tires and can really take a beating. |

Kumho KL78s as far as running MT/Rs I would do that but since I tend to drive a lot more than most on here I want something that will last a long time on the open road! Would be great if I only ran 10,000 a year! |

Never mind. Based on the price and reviews, I'm going to find a set of Kumho's. At about 120 per tire installed, that's about $50 cheaper than replacing my BFG's with BFG's. I hope I don't regret this! |

If you do blame me read the reviews on tirerack , they all seem good and like I said I have wheeled mine in mud and on some rocks etc. and they did good, ride is good etc.
What size are you going with? Mine will be for sale soon as I will be needing to go bigger after December,
