Post subject:  Black Steel Wheels
Okay so I was thinking about Cragar Soft 8s until I met some some hard core wheeler's today who told me to stay away from Cragar rims for off road use! I was told too many people have discovered Cragar's steel is too soft, and that I should spend a few bucks more to buy American Racing. I thought one guy said "American Racing Rock Crawler II's"? But I cannot find such a wheel from American Racing? Can anyone suggest a good strong black steel wheel? I am currently running LT255/70R-16 BFG AT KO's on a stock height '02 KJ Limited, and figure I need 16X7 5.4 rims.

I've wheeled Cragar style wheels for years with zero issues. None whatsoever. If you are wheeling hard enough to really mess up some cragars you should drop the cash on some beadlocks and call it good. The wheels I have aren't Cragar but made by the same company and I beat on mine all the time, again-no issues here. If you are running a KJ Cragars will do you fine until maybe the SFA bug catches then you may want to upgrade. :twisted:

So in your opinion should I go Soft 8's, or another Cragar model wheel? I see you're running "Rock Crawler" wheels, I was wondering if they make a 16x7 5.4? And or where I should look to buy them if so?

Any of the black steel wheels with the right BS should be fine. And almost all of them come in a 16X7 with various different BS. As far as which model to go with, it doesn't really matter, just as long as you like them and the have the right BS and width for your setup. Any of these are a good choice i think:

The American Racing,Crager,Pro Comp,and all those other steel rims(besides Eaton steel rims and US Wheels) are made by the same company to be sold under different names.That company is Unique Wheels,and you can get the same style rims as Crager or American racing at Discount Tires under the Unique Wheel label for far cheaper for the excact same rim.

The great thing about steel rims is they will bend when hit hard unlike a alloy rim will crack/shatter.I have bent my outer bead lip twice on my steel rims and a few whacks from my 3lbs hammer and they where all straight again.
