would that size tire be too much to handle for the IFS and D30a?

a 32-11.50X15 may be pushing it just do to the width of it, depends on the type of tire as in AT or some mud tire with big lugs, people get by with running say a 235/85X16 on a 7 inch wheel, which is 31.8 to 32 inches tall but does not have the width of the 32-11.50. Taller skinner tires that will stuff up in the fender well may work but with the wider 11.50 which should be on at least an 8 inch wheel its going to fill the fender up, esp giving problems when turning, stuffing the tire etc.
now if you only take your lady to the mall then you may be OK

yep still being your PITA

why do you think a tire that wide would give the ESP problems? I was thinking the 32" tire and a 4" lift like JBA.

How wide/tall is a 265/75/16 tire?

PITA, nah you aren't trying hard enough. haha

Not the ESP...

FYI the 265/75/16 is 10.5 wide 31.8 tall
a 11.5 width - is ~290 mm wide

Post subject:

sorry for confusing you with the esp. vs ESP. since I don't have that ESP crap I don't think of it always

265-75X16 31.8 inches tall with a section width of 10.6 on a 7 inch wheel

32-11.50x15 31.7 inches tall with a section width of 11.4 on a 8 inch wheel

may not be a lot but when you start turning the wheels there is not a lot of room in there, plus you would have to bumstop the heck out of the rear end to keep it from tearing your flares off.

Everyone always wants the tallest Jeep with the biggest tires etc but sometimes you either have to do without or it just doesn't make sense to do it due to what you have to do to get it there.

Plus I have seen guys in a 48 Willys with 30 inch tires go where someone with 35 could not make it. Knowing HOW to drive is more importnat than the biggest tires

still trying

yeah this is the size that i am going with in a few weeks. really getting tired of the humming of the TSL's. but you have more of a chance of not cutting or rubbing so much if you go with a 15" rim rather than a 16".

nice, I see your riding with 11.50s now. How is that working out for you? post some pics when you get the 32s on. I have been curious about this for a while.

so you are saying a 32 inch tire on a 15 inch rim is different than a 32 inch on a 16? Sorry :? :? :? :?

use common sense when you start looking at bigger tires and ask your self
"is the trouble worth the gain"
compare these 2 tires and you will see what I mean

245/75 VS 265/75 ,both on 16" x 7" wheels ,OE spec
much less rubbing with the 245
much less power loss with the 245 (you will need 4.10's with 265's and want them with 245's)
slightly lower cost with the 245
slightly lower weight with the 245
lower chance of front diff issues with a 245
less MPG loss with 245
now with the 265 you do gain 1/2" of ground clearance

YUP that is right you gain a whopping 1/2" of ground clearance
you want to see 1/2" take about 8 pennies ,depending on age new pennies about 7 very old 9
stack them next to your tire and ask your self if that matters?
if it does then you need 265's and all the headaches that come along with them
This is the same reason why I run 31 X 11.5 LTB's on my TJ and not some other 33 X12.5's
I have NEVER seen a 33 make a difference over my 31's now 35's yes

by the way lockers go much much further than tires ever will
the biggest limits for my TJ ,trail rig, are wheel base ,it is a little to short for steep hills and traction
even at 12-14 psi and locked front and rear I am still spinning my tires
hopefully when I get my Staun's and can air down to 8 psi that will be all I need
if not then I will get 33 X 13.5 LTB's and regear to 4.10's but keep the bead locks and run them at 6 psi

But on the other hand that extra 1/2" of clearance can make the world of difference when on the rocks, mud not so much.

I have wheeled many times with USAFCOP and he is running 245/75's MT/R's and ARB F/R,I'm running 265/75's with TT front/ARB rear and I cruised over many, many obsticals where he got his rear diff/bumber hung up on(same line, same spotter) from having a 1/2" less clearance.Terrain makes a big difference on tire size choices.

i know its a Miata site, but its what came up when i googled tire size chart
if you do a 265/75 for a 15" and a 16", youll see that the 16" is Bigger

Yes that is true but a 32x11.50x15 is the same height as a 32x11.50x16 tire.

A 15" rim on a KJ will not help with the rubbing on a KJ,if anything it will increase the rubbing since the BS needed to fit a 15" rim on a KJ is far less then what is needed of a 16" rim.

Just because a tire size calculator tells you a tire is a certain size doesn't mean crap. The actual specs of a tire provided by the manufacturer are usually much different than the named size. The named size is just the closest common size. No one wants to try and sell a 248/73R16.

you must be wheeling on granite then
I have wheeled rocks with guys running 33's and I did hit a little more then they did but I was able to easily drag my butt off of what ever I hit
I know that people think Louisiana = no rocks and it does but I TRAVEL to wheel
I go 4+ hours 1 way to the "local park" and 8+ for a weekend trip so I have wheeled rocks
I HATE MUD so give that crap up
1/2" dont mean crap off road
driver is EVERY THING

In perspective, a .5" gain is a 6% increase in ground clearance. You would have to spend some coin on your TJ to get the same percentage increase in GC.

I'm sure Ted (USAFCOP) is a much worse driver than Troy.
1/2" makes the difference out here, where rocks are the main course. Lockers are great obviously, but they don't make up front ground CLEARANCE...you'd just end up ramming into the same crap, just with more traction at the time. You could possibly get enough uumph (increase in skinny pedal) to make it over due to said increased traction, which would be wasted if you had open diffs.
