What pressure are you guys with these tires running? I aired down at the beach and when I went to air up again, realized I didnt know how high I should go. By mistake, I filled one up to about 46 and from eyeballin, it looked like it could take more pressure. I aired it back down and settled at 38psi....

Your thoughts?

I am running 34 to 35 pounds in each tire, but I think I am a little underinflated. No signs of wear due to underinflation at this pressure and I have run them like this for almost two years. I do rotate the tires every 5000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. I work at home so I do not drive a lot during the year. Someday I will do the chalk test and find out what the best pressure is for my Jeep.

Looking to get some Firestone Destination 235/65/17's on my 2008 Liberty Limited soon. Checked on Tire Rack for A/T tires and decided on this one. Will be getting some in the next couple months before the bad weather gets here. Interested in if I have made a good choice or not. Female here who doesn't know a whole lot about tires..... thanks :D

I run 40 in mine and like they way they ride. I've had them since the beginning of the year and they did great in the snow and ice hear on the south side of Lake Michigan. I also put some on the wifes Ford Escape and they handle well on it too.

I'm sure they are better then the Goodyear Wrangler's OEM on the 2008 Liberty. We dont't get a whole lot snow here. but we do get our share of nasty snow and I also want a good snow/ice snow if I can get by without buying a snow tirel. Thanks for any input on this!!!!!

Not sure what kind of snow you get where you are, but BC coastal snow, when we get it, can be heavy and wet. Sort of like mud. My Destinations have done very well with this type of snow, and the ice that comes with it. No A/T tire comes close to what a good snow tire will provide in traction. Snow tires have a special compound that keeps the tire tread soft and pliable at low temperatures. A/T tires and all season tires do not have this ability. A/T tires are better than all seasons. For the small amount of snow we get A/Ts are ideal, our temperatures rarely get cold enough to warrant snow tires.

Factory recommended is 32 psi, but I think that is too low. Don't exceed 44 psi. I run mine at 36 psi.

I run all of my Destination A/T's (235/70/16) at 40PSI. They have been chalk tested and provide the best contact patch with the most amount of air.

As far as the tires. I've been running mine for almost 2 years now and they are very nice in all weather conditions. In fact, it rained all weekend [left overs from IKE] here in Detroit and these tires rocked through all of the flooded out streets. They have also experinced snow storms (up to 5" of snow and slush) without problems

These are some very good tires.

thanks for the input everybody. I have had mine about 6 months and taken them through sand, mud, rocks, wet pavement, water holes and never had a lick of trouble. On top of that, they were the cheapest AT I could find at the time I purchased them so no complaints at all about these tires.

38 psi currently, might bump that up to 39. 5,000 miles on them so far, great tire. Looking forward to some snow!

I increased the pressure in mine to 36 cold. After few miles they are at 38. They seem to ride a lot better than the 34 pounds cold I had them at. I did have them 36 - 38 cold in the summer and discovered that when hot they were 42. The sidewall says never exceed 40.

Let me start off with this
I do not have these tires
That being said it is basically math that you are dealing with when it comes to tires and how much pressure to run
The tire in question has a load carrying capacity of just shy of 2100 lbs @ 44psi
simple math tells us that 1 psi = 47.72 lbs on that tire
not knowing the max GVW of the KJ off the top of my head and being to lazy to go look I will guess that 6000lbs is about right maybe a little high
knowing that the MFG never intended for your KJ to carry more than 6000lbs then you need about 1500lbs per tire
so how much pressure in these tires will hold 1500lbs
1500 / 47.72 = 31.43 ,unless I am wrong is this not what is stamped in the door ,32 psi?
now yes running more will not hurt to a point ,34 maybe 36 psi

also note that this is a C load tire and is made for this size and style vehicle
a MTR is not they were made for a different rig and this is why they need more psi at a given weight
they are an E load tire and should be run at higher PSI but not any where near their max of 80 psi
some place around 38-40 for best MPG to ride compromise

There is no math for airing down or for running bias ply swampers
with a C load radial tire 16 psi and you should do fine E load should be good down to 12 psi
swampers :?: I run mine at 12 psi off road and 25 psi on ,so far so good
hope this helps

The KJ runs closer to 4,000 I believe not 6,000.

No math version
take piece of chalk - draw line across width of tire - drive ~50-100 feet - look at chalk line
if the chalk disappears on the tire edges first - increase pressure
if the chalk diasppears on the tire center first - decrease pressure
Target highest pressure where entire chalk line disappears.

for ease of testing - start with highest pressure you think is reasonable and decrease ~5psi or so per test

they run about 4400 off the lot ,no tools or mods
I was putting out 6000 as the max GVW ,it was in the post
