Post subject:  Tire recommendations for a Grandma.
One of my coworkers needs new tires for her Libby. She just uses it for commuting around Chicago, no off road, hardly ever any four wheel drive usage. So, what tires do you think are best for her without breaking the bank?

Firestone Destination ATs
Kumho KL78s

both wear good, do good in all types of weather, Kumhos do better off road but since "Grandma " will never do that, either one is resonable and good

I have ran both, sold the destinations with almost 30,000 and half tread currently the Kumhos have almost 30,000 and still have 7 /32s of tread left, they do make a little more noise, the Destinations are really quiet

You've got a couple of lists - CR and Tirerack - I'd recommend AT's - because you guys get snow

FYI - I've got Kumho's and they're fine - but we don't do the snow stuff.

Since it's just a higway car and depending on the amount of snow (???) you get, I would have her go with a good all season tire or a very non aggressive AT ( ex. BFG long trails). I put AT's on my wife's blazer a few years back and we only get 2 decent snows per year, I just got a killer deal on them at the time. A decent all season would have worked for her.

Goodyear Wrangler SRA... comes stock and gets all around wear. Michelin LTX a/t or m/s also good choices for a grandma. Destination a/ts ride rough and get noisy if not well taken care of

Screw the SRA. Short-lived tread life and high price for what it is. LTX M/S is ok, but the Long Trail is better everywhere but deep snow, plus they're pricey. On the cheaper end of the spectrum, I'd agree with tom on the KL78s, or the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country.

I had Kumho Solus KR21's on my Liberty when I bought it. These things were great even on wet or snowy roads. Cheap and good tire if you are staying on the road. The Fuzion XTi's I have now are a bit more AT but they are still cheap and work great also. I've got around 15-20k on them with no signs of wearing out any time soon.
