I have been looking for new tires and found someone with a set of 4 General Grabber AT LT235 85R16 which are almost brand new (only a few thousand miles) and for a good price. My question is that I currently have an unlifted 2005 Liberty Sport. Will these tires fit okay for normal driving? I assume I will feel some rub at hard turns. |

No - they're almost 32" - they'll rub everywhere without a lift. without a lift - Darby ran 235/75/16's - which is 29.8" l most folks stay at the 245/70/16 - 29.6" without a lift or trimming. |

even jeepinbyal's 4 inch kit only recommends 235/85/16. |

So my current stock tires are 235/70R16 and I now have someone else offering 235/75R16...Would these be okay without a lift? |

I have them with 2.5" lift. I would NOT reccommend that size without a lift and even then you better be willing to trim some.... |

I think Milner is running 235/85/16 (although the title of his photo post was 245/85/16) Darby ran 235/75/16 stock and lots of folks have run 245/70/16 stock (or at most minor trimming on fender liners) |

The 235/75/16 is an unusual size but it can be found. |

I just installed Firestone 245 75 16 on stock steel rims. I have 2wd and a 2.4. I only get rubbing at max turn but it is only hitting the plastic well. If I don't cut it it's no big deal. HOWEVER with more rolling resistance because of the extra width (which I am grateful for) my mileage has dropped from 24.3 to 21.1. Benefits: Rides like a totally different vehicle. Feels solid and stable. RPM down (28.4 " to a 30.5" tire) 75mph is now 2800 rpm not 3050rpm. Corners better. Looks great. I can go all the way across the street in 1st. gear. In each gear longer. More comfortable to drive. Drawbacks: 3 mpg less (checked over 4 tank fulls) I was hoping for more mileage w/ these tires. Down shifting out of 5th gear more. Hills and bridges are more work. |

2oose Welcome to LOST - fyi on your mpg calculation - if you're just taking the odometer mileage - you're now off about 7% The larger tire shows a lower mileage for the same number of revolutions - so your 21.1 would really be 22.5 - but downshifting is a mileage killer. |

You are very close. Actually based on mileage markers I add 8% to my mileage total. I even took the newly installed K&N filter out of the air box just to make sure I was comparing apples w/ apples. A couple more tanks and I'll put the K&N back in. It may sound crazy but I really suspect the K&N is actually hurting mileage! |

a very quiet hint... sell the K&N and get an Amsoil filter ..it really does help |

100 + mile trip up the Turnpike checking mileage markers. 7% is correct. 20.3mpg As far as the Amsoil filter, I should have thought of that first since I have an account with them! I think I saw on this board about cutting a additional 2.5" hole in the air box w/ a flex hose to cold air. Any Validity?? |
