Ok gang,

seriously How much size differance is there from a 29.3" and a 29.5" tire??????
I looked at a 225/75/16 tire and they are all 29.3"
the 245/70/16 is 29.5"
I know the 245 is wider, but the 70 is a lower profile?

Well let me know how they work out.
I had a lift with 245\75\16x8 and man I loved the way it drove.
Now that I took out the lift, My old BFG's are worn pretty good. But they were 225/75

why year do you have?

so I missed the question, or you sort of answered it yourself, 70s series is wider than a 75 series but the 245 is a taller profile than the 225 so do you want skinny tires or a little wider, look at tread width, big difference. plus if you are going to try and use the Moabs the 225/75s will never work

I am so freaking confused with tire sizes.
I know the 225's will never work. I was just wondering how much more differance is the 29.0" to the 29.5" tire.....
My KJ is now back to stock height but I want to keep my moabs. I was looking at a 245\70\16 and it measure to 29.5" that is onlt a .2" diff from the 225\75.

now,
is the 245 the width or height of the tire? I thought the 1st group of numbers whas the width and the 2nd set was the height.

A 29.5 inch tire is really only .25 inches taller net than a 29.0 inch tire because half of the increase will be below the axle centerline.

245 - section width in MM

75 - aspect ratio : the height of the sidewall is 75% of the section width. A 75 series has a taller sidewall than a 70 series tire, but it does not change the section width*

16 - rim size ( the easy one )

* assuming proper rim width, air pressure etc.

A 245/75/16 tire is taller than a 245/70/16 because the sidewall is 10% taller ( 5% on each side of the axle ) But the taller tire will only make the vehicle sit that 5% taller because, again, 5% is on each side of the axle. it is only 5% taller in any one direction. Both have a section width of 245 mm.

a 245/75/16 is both taller and wider than a 225/75/16 because the section width (245 mm vs. 225 mm ) is wider and the aspect ratio of 75% ( x2 ) of 245 is greater than 75% ( x2) of 225.

section width + aspect ratio conversion (x2) + rim diameter should give you height of tire, IIRC.

And just to confuse the issue -
what rubs on larger tires is the tread width - that's not part of the formula
and most manufacturers don't tell you tread width, it's proportional to section width - but not the same.
a 245 section width is 9.6 inches but the tread width will commonly be 7.5 to 8.2 -
depends on the tread pattern and the way it's manufactured.

Good point. Aggressive treads make this an even bigger issue.
