Post subject:	BFG A/T's OR General Grabber AT2's
I'm going to buy a Frankenlift I this summer and will be beefin' up my treads too but I can't decide if I wanna go with BFG A/T's or General Grabber AT2's. Now I'll be getting 245/70/16's. I'll be getting them through Sear's because my parents have an account there and can get a discount. I'll be ordering 5 so I'll have a spare. The BFG's are $180 a tire and the Grabber's are $123 so for a set of 5 I'm looking at $900 or $615. Now my Dad has BFG A/T's on his Z71 Tahoe, they need to be replaced now but he put them on at 40k and rolled over on a 100k last week, they still have bout 1/4" of tread in the center and probably 1" of side tread left. So they wear and perform great, but what would you expect out of BFG's and $900? Now I don't know much about the Grabbers at all but I have seem them on KJ's before and I think they look better, Their tread is wider because the BFG's cave in at the top for the side tread to form and the Grabber's are pretty normal. So the Grabbers look beefier and more aggressive. Now price matters but if I'm only gonna get 20 or 30k out of a set of grabbers screw that! So has anyone ran a set of either? or both? Why would you run 245/70 on a frankenlift, you can fit that size on a stock KJ. At least get 245/75. I would get the Grabbers. Tire Rack rates the treadwear on the BFG and the Grabbers the same: BFG Goodrich Grabbers AT2

A lot of KJ'ers here are running 245/75, 255/70, 265/70 or even 265/75 and 235/85 on their Frankenlifted KJs. I'm running a OME (medium duty) lift and running 235/70 (bought it before the lift) and I got a bunch of room for bigger diameter tires.

I'd get the BFGs over any other AT on the market. I'd get them in 245/75/16 if I were you and going to run an OME or Franky.

The ATA has a 3 ply sidewall and a built in rim protector. It is a stronger tire with a higher load capacity than the General's do. The upper sidewall is also designed for maximum traction when aired down. They cost more, because there is more to them. The General's are a good tire and no mistake about it. But if I had to choose between the two I would pick the ATA's over them any day. I ran 245/75/16's on mine with a Franky and just had to pound down the pinch weld (which is easy) and I had no rubbing even at full stuff. I am running bigger than that now and I only have slight rubbing at full stuff.

I've owned both in the past and General Grabbers are every bit as good, only cheaper. I think this has been asked before. Try doing a search here or jeepkj.com. Check out www.tiresavings.com That's were I got my Grabbers at something like $86 each.
