Post subject:  Female needs help...Firestone Destinations?
Please give me some input on the Firestone Destination A/T's. I'm thinking of 235/65/17's for my '08 Liberty. I'm going to try to get through the winter with the OEM Goodyear Wranglers, but I'm not very confident with them. Was hoping to get through to spring with them, but today we had about 2" snow and they were the pits on the road :cry:
I've always liked Michelin, and I like the ATX A/T 2's, but they are just a little too $$$ for me. Also like the Pirelli Scorpion ATR, but also too $$$.
That's when I decided on the Firestone Destination A/T. I want a little more aggresive tire than the Wranglers, but also don't want a noisy tire. That's why I thought the Firestone would be a good in-between tire.
What do you all think? Anyone have this one.....on the Liberty KK?

I just bought the Destination AT the other day. Gotta say that I love them! They handled the ice/rain/snow that we got last night extremely well. I've regained confidence in driving in the wet stuff in 2 wheel drive. I bought the 235/75s and there's a bit of rubbing when I flex the KJ - so with the 30 day test drive program that Firestone has, I'm going in to have them swap the tires to a 235/70 on Friday. That should solve the rubbing and still keep a wider tire on the KJ.

I haven't run them - but just reading posts there have been a lot of positive reviews - and if you check Tirerack's survey

I ran them in a 245-70-16 before and a while after I got my lift, great tire for the money, wear good LOTS better than the stock ones :shock: and did great in snow/ice etc.

If I were you I would go ahead and switch them out, I wished after I did mine I would of changed at only 10 miles!

Question : If I'm going to be changing from the 235/75 (due to rubbing on the wheel well), will the 245/70 rub when stuffed like the 235/75? I'm trying to get the tires as big as possible without rubbing.

I had the Firestone Destination AT 235/70/16's and now they are on the wife's Escape and I went with the FD AT 255/70/16's and I love them.

Foxy.....beg, borrow, and do anything (legal) to scrape up the money and get them if they are making them in your 235/65/17 size now..........call it your Christmas present. You will be soooooo glad you did when the snow flies.

I have them on my 05. They are awesome tires in the snow (and wet, and dry). They are less aggressive than many ATs, but they are also a lot quieter.

I got caught in a nasty lake-effect snowstorm over the holiday weekend, and the tires performed amazing.

There are no cheap tires in your size. At least no GOOD cheap tires. No, I don't want to hear about those Fuzion things, or other off-brands either...
One thing I want you to remember when thinking about replacement tires, especially on this site, is that almost all of them are replacing the garbage stock rubber...just because they're better than a Wrangler ST/SR-A/HP doesn't mean it's any good.

I would heartily recommend you look into the Michelin LTX M/S.

You get what you pay for with tires, and the LTX's are the way to go in your situation. I don't normally recommend them, but they'll be 1,000x better than the stock Wrangler HP's in wet weather and snow, and will be more pleasant when it's dry too, not to mention I've seen properly cared for LTX MSs go 100,000 miles.

They will likely dry rot to death before you wear them out.

Also, tire shine is the devil.

Screw that, ignore everything above this, I just remembered.

The BF Goodrich Long Trail Tour. Rehashed from the old BFG Long Trail that, in OEM applications, typically go about 75-80,000 miles. Unlike the old Long Trail, the new one is not asymmetrical, and it offers better snow traction and less noise than the old Long Trail (not that it was a particularly noisy tire to begin with), and it should get better dry weather handling.
They haven't been out long, but they're very promising.

That's the problem, I've got 16,000 miles on them and they barely wore any!! I'm sick of them I need some bigger tires!! Hahaha....but seriously they are awesome tires.

I have had them for over 3 years....guess I need to drive it more!! :lol: At this rate it's going to take me over 7 years to get 40,000 miles on them!!

Defiantly go with these tires, I have been running them for about 8000 miles now and I travel on many different types of roads, and they are the best thing ever. The ride and quality is EXCELENT, they haven’t yet showed any wornness to them. I can do 85 on the highway and has a nice smooth, quiet ride. I also do a lot of off roading and the traction that I get is outstanding.

I had them on '05 17X7.5" rims in a 245/65R17 before the lift. They were excellent for the money. Very good manors on the road, good snow and rain traction. Got me though everything I put them through. I like the Silent Armors I'm running now better, but they were a lot more expensive.

And you are comparing these tires to.....

I'm sticking by the BFG Long Trail Touring. There is no reason for her to get an A/T since she is not doing any off roading, and if she were, she'd want an MT

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the Destination AT is a BAD tire by any stretch of the imagination...but with tires, in most cases, you DO get what you pay for...and in the case of the Long Trail Touring, you get better snow/wet traction, less road noise, and better ride quality

I forgot to mention that my dad has the BFG A/T’s and the ride isn’t as great as mine and the traction in the mud is slippery.

^yes the destinations are alil more pricey than the long trail, but they defiantly are alil more promising it seems… :roll:

Silverfox: If you don’t want to go with such a hard of terrain tire and go for the more all-season/highway, go with the destination LE’s. My mom has been riding with them on her jeep since last November and hasn’t had a problem yet.

Just putting in more of my 2cents
