Besides load rating, what is the difference.... i am guessing thinner side walls? I run Bf Mt's 265 now and thought i would try a change.

Anyways, about all I can tell you without doing math is that the 255s are wider..

I would buy 255s they are close to an inch wider and 4tenths of an inch shorter

why 255-70 -vs- 245-75 ?

BFG 245-75 16 30.5 tall section width 9.8 on a 7.5 inch wheel
BFG 255-70 16 30.2 tall section width 10.2 on a 7.5 wheel
BFG 265-70 16 30.7 tall section width 10.7 on a 8 inch wheel

you can get C,D and E load range in each size pretty much so are you just wanting a different size , width, ???

Why MT/Rs? From my experience, AT-KOs are a better tire. I plan on going to KM2s once I wear out my MT/Rs.

I have ran both and prefer BFG.


Only way I'd run an MTR again is if there was a crazy good deal on them. Otherwise I prefer BFG MT or AT.

What's wrong with the tires you have now? - and what's right with them?
what do you hope to change by going to 245/255?
are you getting rubbing? tearing off fenders? not enough traction on ice?
too much of a mileage drag?

so each size/style has advantages/disadvantages -
so you should be clear about what you want to accomplish

I'd have to back Troy up on this one. I had Firestone tires and they were horrendous, all around. Nothing good to say about them as a tire for a jeep. This was a while back so maybe they have improved but the set I had were crap.

Sorry, but you cannot compare the BFG Mall Terrain and the MT/R. They are not in the same category. When you're talking about "What tire should I put on my '03 F-250 work truck?" then yes, the BFG Mall Terrain will work fine.

This is like asking "Should I get Michelin Cross Terrains or TSL Boggers?"
No, seriously...it is exactly AS ridiculous as that question. There is no way around it.

When you venture off road...well...

BFG Mall Terrains belong on work trucks. They wear well, they're quiet, and good in snow.

Not much else I can say about 'em, TBH.
