Ok, so here's the problem. I bought a set of Destination AT. I asked for 235/70, but got 235/75. Now there's rubbing, but I love the width of the tire. So the question is: how big can I go without rubbing on an unlifted '05? I know that 235/70 will work (since it's a factory option). Can I go to a 245/70 without rubbing? I want to be able to stuff the tires without worrying about rubbing. Other option: I could let the tires rub the little bit that they are, not swap the size out, and hope that they wear down more rapidly than the inside of the wheel well. Opinions? |

Where are they rubbing? Front of the fender flare, or rear of the fender? Have you pounded down the pinch weld yet? |

If you plan on getting a lift any time soon don't buy tires yet, with my lift I have no rubbing and I'm currently on BFGs 235/75R16 |

Seems to be rubbing on the front of the wheel well - haven't done the pinch welds yet - after seeing the write up, I'm not so sure I trust myself with this one. Got to find someone else to pound the welds with me. |

..If it is the front of the wheel well (evidenced by a shiny spot on the black plastic), you could always hit the spot with a heat gun for a couple minutes, and then using a (leather) gloved hand press the plastic in so that when it hardens you will have the clearance you need. You wont even need to remove the liner to do it, just the tire. ..Should be able to do both sides in like 30 minutes (and heat guns are cheap if you dont have one). |

Don't know if you are still watching this but my 245/70r16's rub the front of the fender liner because of the backspacing on my 16x8 rims. I was worried at first but after a year and 12,000 miles there is no damage to the tires other than a little scuffing and a little scuffing on the liner. Pounding the pinch weld is a no brainer. Take the whele off and pound the pinch weld flat with a small sledge than hit the bare metal with some high quality anti-rust paint. I am mechanically challenged and was scared but it is really easy. |

They may be, but I don't think that's what caused the rubbing. The backspacing on the Cragers pushed the tires way out. You can really tell when its parked next to my other KJ with the same tires on stock rims (don't rub at all). They rubbed all four corners-- I had to cut a healthy slice off the flares in the back and pound the weld in the front. I'm very happy with them though. The wide stance makes the KJ look aggressive and it handles noticeably better than stock. The rubbing is slightly annoying but not worth spending the $ and dealing with the hassles of a lift. The only time I had a problem was when a really fat mechanic sat in the passenger seat while we went for a test drive. Then they really rubbed. |
