Post subject:  17" Stock Wheels

I currently have 17" stock wheels on my 05' Liberty Limited with 2.5" RRO Lift, Jeepin By Al's A-Arms,
Mickey Thompson P265/70R17 MTX (Which are worn out due to a terrible front end problem)-now fixed thanks to Jeff Daniels Jeep Customizing in Harleysville, PA. NOW....I would like to switch to black wheels & new tires obviously(back on stock tires for now). I went to the local speed shop in town & they told me I could NOT put the type of wheels I want on my Jeep. Quite honestly I did not understand what the reason was(selective hearing when it comes to NO) :( . I've been reading the posts & the wheels i like are by Unique & Cragar. Should I downsize from a 17" wheel then? I was used to the 17" wheel but i cannot get in black I will have to downsize wheel & upsize tire to fit me wheel well correct? Please help. Thank you!!
P.S. No more off road-too costly

So did you get rid of the lift to correct the problems ?

some run 17s but most run the Soft 8s from Crager in 16X7 or 8 inch,
16X7 with 4 inch backspacing works good and can go up to a 265-75-16 on them , 16X8 with 5 inch of backspacing is what Rubicon Moabs are

so what size was you wanting in wheels / tires ?? Good overall size is 245-75-16s do not loose much power that way, also why no more off roading?

The only Soft 8 in a 17" that MAY work is part number 3978812. It's a 17x8, 5 on 4.5 with 4.5" of backspacing. Though even on a 265 width tire, you are better keeping a 7" wide wheel. Plus with that BS you are sure to rub. I would recommend a 16x7 P/N 3977712, or a 15x7 P/N 3975712.

I went with the Cragar 15x7 with 4" BS, but I would suggest a 4.5" BS for little to no rubbing.

Thank you all for the replies. Did not remove the lift. Had the front right CV Axel replaced amongst some other minor things. I don't off road anymore cause' I'm trying to buy a house & that requires "All funds on deck" if you know what I mean.
Ok....what the heck is back spacing. I read about it but quite honestly I have not understood what it means. I want the most height i can get out of 17" wheels as well as the biggest meats I put on in the past. It actually looked really nice. I cannot justify putting a 4" lift right now so i have to make due with what I have. Suggestions?????

Backspace is the amount of space between the inside edge of the wheels, from the bead to the mounting flange.
