TSL VS MT/R

As the title states? Pros / Cons ? Opinions?

Is it your DD? Do you play in the mud a lot?

yes its my DD? But I bought the Cragar 15X 7's for trail use so the TSL or MT/R's will go on them. I think I will keep my Moabs and put an AT tire on it for most of the city driving. I dunno thats kinda why I asked the question of peoples thoughts.

If you plan on going through a ton of mud, then go with the TSL, otherwise, I'd go MT/R. The TSL are beasts off road, but are a true MUD tire.? I think the MT/Rs would be better in rocks. Mine chunked really bad, but the TSLs would probably chunk worse on rocks.

My mtrs work really good in the mud. They work good on mud/rock trails but I do have a few chunks in them. In moab they worked well but my brothers bfg at seemed to get better traction.

Since they are not your D/D tire, We would go with the TSLs.

The MT/R's are fantastic all-around daily driver tires. Long wear, excellent off road traction, good street manners...

ThunderbirdJunkie may have just talked himself out of going with KM2s...the MT/R's are the best thing to happen to a daily driven ORV since a license plate ITBJHO.
They chunk a little in the rocks, but that is a small price to pay

Not much mud down here in Vegas, more sand and rock. plus Im lucky if I get to take her off road once a month.. plus the TSL's were a tad bit cheaper. So again just getting everyone's opinion. I have the MTR'S on now and they have done well as my daily drivers. they are starting to look a lil low/bald for my taste.

I voted MTR because they are a better all around tire, but if you want something inexpensive and don't care about road manners, noise or life then the TSLs will be great off road.

I voted for the MT/Rs because I know how I can be ... I'd change out the tires for a wheeling trip then end up running them for another week or two before I have the chance to change them back out. For that reason I would prefer a more well-rounded tire. Also, in the conditions you would likely to encounter in the southwest, I feel the MT/Rs might be a better choice.

They are acceptable on the street and on a daily driver - and great off road. The new Kevlar's sound better than that.

Haven't tried TSL no intention to try them - I'd go MTR.

Swampers kick butt, but tend to flat spot when sitting (even the radials, I have heard.) They are the most popular off-road tire for a reason.

I have MT/R's on the KJ because they have good road manners for a tire with an aggresive tread and seem to offer the best mix of on road drivabilty with honest off road performance with the fewest compromises ( Swampers are notoriusly hard to balance)

If you are talking about going with the new style MT/R's then do it! Old style naw....................The new ones are impressive and I will give them a shot where as I was never very impressed with the old ones.

Going by what you wrote here, I'd go TSL. A/T's for the DD and occasional trails, and TSL's for hard core playing in the desert. Makes the most sense.

if they are only to be used off road... why not go with the tire that performs better offroad? TSL

TSL over MTR's if used strictly for offroad purposes. TSL's are a complete offroad tire & MTR's are all around. If you have AT that you will be using for DD then save some coin & go with the TSL's.

I think it should be Mud tire vs Rock tire

I hate Mud, have no use for Mud tires, some people like it - but in Nevada - I think you'd want Rock tires.

Yes, again not much mud out here. lotsa rocks lil bit of sand.... I didn't know anything about the TSL tires, but I have seen a few people with them on they're rigs so wanted some info on them vs the MT/R's. I just bought the 15X7 Cragars so im gonna need to buy some new shoes for them. Right now i am running the Moabs w/ the 245 MTR's and they are getting a bit low on tread. so I will continue to use those as the DD tires until they need to be replaced by some good AT's

If you are buying dedicated offroad tires, why replace you DD tires with AT's? I'd get a dedicated road tire, like an all season (for good dry and wet road traction and best tread wear) or maybe even summer / high performance tires for best traction and handling (often poor tread wear and expensive..).

Personally I'm working toward getting a set of good snows, all seasons, and eventually something for offroad. Sounds like you'd be good with that setup, except omitting the snows.

I liked the General Grabber HTS, Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza, Cooper Discoverer CTS, and BFGoodrich Long Trail T/A Tour tires for my all season road tire choices. I ended up with CTS due to price and availability at the time.

I was not impressed with the reviews for other General Grabbers, or Bridgestones at the time, but those particular tires got rave reviews. I got some hydroplaning today with my CTS, but it was practically a monsoon and I was driving about 60-65.

DOC, I would consider the Toyo Open Country M/T. They don’t chunk like the MT/R and many reviewers have said they lasted longer, had better on-road manners, were quieter, and were better on rocks than MT/R's. However, I think the new Kevlar MT/R might be a good choice.
