It seems the preferred tire is 245 75 16 and that's what I'm running now. Some go w 265 75 16 and some 235 85 16 w trimming. I would think 255 85 16 could work since they are only 10" wide or does this creat issue w/ cv angles?? Sorry to ask. I know these tire questions are beaten to death but I am curiuos.

a few guys are running 235 / 85s with no problems...

255/85 is over 33", your gonna need 6"+ of lift for that to work, not to mention the front differential will probably grenade, and your going to have a loss of power because the deepest gears made for the d30a are 4.10s

That size would be too tall and also the width would get you as well depending on rim width.
Plus like mentioned before even with 265-75-16s you need to go to 4.10s

OK I understand the gearing part but from what I can see on mine, the bumper (where the fog lights are) is where the issue would be and that would be remedied by going w/ an aftermarket bumper (but something not as heavy as the ARB). By the way, thanks for the quick response.

the pinchweld in the back of the wheel well, will also cause clearance issues. not to mention it will severely rub the sway bar

And the rear of the wheelwell as well, where the pinch weld is, there is not that much room really in the wheelwells as some tend to think, also then to start in the rear a whole other story ... well unless you are not going to flex any

Everyone thinks the ARB is so heavy , but any bumper that will take the same abuse and be strong enough to work great is going to be about the same weight

it's still 33" tall

ThunderbirdJunkie's 245/75-16s on stock wheels still rub the swaybar

there is no way theyll fit, i was saying lots o' back spacing will reduce sway bar rubbing

yes even if its 10 inches wide , look at the available room in there, not much like I said unless you only run on perfectly smooth roads to the mall with no speedbumps

So I am wrong in assuming that it is the width of the tire that affects the sway bar rubbing. My 245s, which are on stock rims, still have room. Tommud I see you have 265 70 16s which are 10.7" wide per the chart. Do you have issues w/ the sway bar or did you change the spacing?

He is running 16x8 MOABS with 5.5" BS. So that helps push the wheel outward away from the sway bar.

LOTs of difference in what you call width, you were talking about a 10 inch wide tire and then said I had wider tire, well true if you are looking at section width and not tread width, my 265-70s are about 8.25 wide mounted on a 8 inch wheel, I also have the pinch weld pounded over AND an ARB bumper which changes everything as far as what may or may not rub. ( wheels/ARB etc. ) Year of the KJ, what wheels you run( kind, width and backspacing) , tire make and if AT or a MUD type tread all come into play when looking at what may or may not rub

I was referring to section width. You're right about the ARB bumper not being heavy for what it is intended but it looks like the few other aftermarket bumpers are more designed for clearance than protection. I know I saw someone that cut the foglight area on a stock bumper and was wondering if he just cut it or filled it? hope that last one made sense.
