Alright, I have looked at the tire chart in the sticky thread. It says that with 1.5" of lift I can fit 245/75s or 255/70s. But let's be realistic. There are lost members that have 2.5" of lift and 245/75s, and they still get rubbing at all four corners. So if you stay on the street, I guess it's true that you can fit them. But if you go off road they are going to rub and tear things up eventually. My question is...the 255/70 size is 0.5" shorter, but 0.4" wider. Do these tires fit any better than the 245/75s? What exactly is the problem with the 245/75s...is it the height or the width of the tire that seems to be the main issue?? |

Don't forget, the tread design does affect rubbing. The MT's and MTR's have extreme tread design and cause greater rubbing than an AT tire. I don't think people are really breaking anything with their bigger tires....except maybe the small plastic rivets that holds the flares on. I haven't had any damage yet from bigger tires. |

My Lib has "rubbage" with a 2.5" lift and 245/75 MTs on stock Limited rims. The only damage I've seen so far is a few of 3 of rivets break when my tires stuff and it rubs the underside of the flare on the rear door. The flare is still attached securely by the majority of the rivets, but it is just slight askew; barely noticeable, unless you're looking for it. I will replace, eventually... |

I think most of us can make it rub when stuffing...thank goodness for plastic rivets. If you want to keep the flex, you should keep that tire inside the well. thats about a 9.5" width. That wider tire rubs more than the taller one. |

I run a 255/70R16 A/T tire for 6 months before doing a clevis. Mine was prelowered. Sure it rubbed at full lock. Now that I got my lift I will run 265/75R16. You get all your clearance from the height or the tires. You get all your traction from the width and tread. So you better make em count!!! |
