Hi Folks,

Just wondering if there is a general rule for tire pressure while towing?

I have a 19', ~3500 lb travel trailer I will be towing again this summer. I have a weight distribution setup which levels things out nicely.

I have Bridgestone Dueller AT Revo's in 245-70-16 size.

I normally run them around 35 lbs.

My instinct tells me I should perhaps increase the pressure for towing but I haven't really found confirmation of that.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dave

If you have zero tongue weight, do not increase pressure. The KJ doesn't look like it's sagging now, so ThunderbirdJunkie wouldn't bother TBH.

If you're worried about it, max 'em out!

Hey TBJ,

I'm sure it's not 0 tongue weight, my understanding of a WD setup is it distributes the tongue weight, which would usually be mostly on the rear axle, to the front and trailer axles as well.

So if my tongue weight is say 300 lbs, in an ideal world I would have +100lbs on the front, rear and (combined) trailer axles.

So that said, is +100 lbs per axle isn't really that much.

Max on the Revos is 44 psi... I may split the difference and go up to 40 :-)

Thanks,

Dave

Just dont get over the MAX tire pressure on the side of the tire. Personally I wouldnt go over 36-38...

And youre correct about how WD works. :)

If the tire's max is 44, then I would push it up there myself for towing. When done, drop them back to your regular running pressures.
If you have a lower pressure with alot of weight on them, in thoery, the tires will bulge more on the sidewalls creating more heat... which can be very bad for the tire. Running them at the max will prevent that preventing premature tire wear and IMO safer.
My Toyos on my Tahoe are usually set at around 50-60 when I tow, but then they are load D or E, they can handle it.

with that little bit of tongue weight on revos you will burn the centers out of them at anything over #40. IMHO I would run at #32 - #35 and call it a day. The KJ can tow 5k using stock tires at stock pressure with no problems.

What this guy says. I'd put it'll middle of the road 30's. Dad's been towing a lot of heavy stuff (long and short distance) with his crd on 225/75/16's at 32 psi for a few yrs. No blow outs And his rear springs are... shot and sit lower than the front so I'm sure he overloaded it at least once
