i'm in the market for new tires. i just bought some last year, and i drive roughly 34k miles a year. i would like to stick with an AT tire and my question is what would u recomend for a tre load. if i get a higher load rated tire, would it last longer? and how would it drive? i am thinkimh of changing the size to 225/75/16 thanks |

In my personal opinion (absolutely no professional or scientific basis behind this just my common sense) I would think the 10ply might last a little longer. Only because I think while going over rough terrain the 10ply won't have as much give, if the rubber tires are not flexing as much over different terrains the rubber shouldn't break down nearly as much. However this could be a bunch of codswalup and I'm sure someone following me will tell me just that, but it's my opinion. And by this I was assuming by load your talking about the load letter (usually C-E for truck tires) and the C load is usually 6 ply and the E is usually 10-ply. |

ThunderbirdJunkie would recommend one of two tires. The Michelin LTX M/S or the BFG All Terrain. They are not cheap, but those are the two longest-wearing truck tires money can buy. The Jeep will ride and handle better ITBJHO with an LRE tire. The Michelins, you should have no problem getting 100,000 miles out of on a properly maintained KJ. the BFGs should last no less than 70k. The Michelins, however, are a straight up street tire. |

the higher load rating does not determine how long they will last. however, the higher the load rating, the heavier the tire, the worse gas mileage and more your ride will change due to the extra unsprung weight. tire life is mostly a function of how soft or hard the rubber compound is (yes, there are other factors like personal driving style, vehicle condition and the vehicle itself). the harder the compound, the longer the tire will last....however there is a compromise, generally speaking, the tire will not grip the road as well as a tire with a softer rubber compound (this is especially noticeable when the road is wet). likewise, with a softer compound, you will have better traction, but less tread life. my goal when looking at tires is finding a tire with the right balance....b/c if you get 70k mile tires....you might want to replace them after 30k because you are all over the road when it gets wet. |

Depends on what he wants to pay -VS- how long it will last. You can buy a 100 dollar tire ( like the Kumhos) that will last 45,000 miles or a 189.99 tire that will last 65 or 70,000 maybe . He asked for long wearing so he must know he will pay the extra for that! 
Me I get tired of looking at the same tire and sell them before they get 1/2 worn out!!!!

Also depends on the tire type if you're worried about being all over the road. Plenty of all season tires are great in the rain, quiet, decent winter traction, and have long wear 60, 70k+. The problem begins when you want agressive looking tires or tires that are excellent offroad. I think the snows I just ordered typically last about 10-15k miles.... |
