Why do you want to change from 235/70 to 225/75? The 235/70 is a 29.1" x 8.9" and the 225/75 is 29.3" x 8.7"?

Anyways ... On first thought I would say go with the 16x8. The 16x7 has a 0 offset which will bring it out more and sit way past the fender. The 16x8 has a +13 offset which will still sit further out past the fender just not as far. Then again adding the inch in wheel width will kind of make up for the 16x7 having a 0 offset.

SO .... after all that ... I would say go with the 16x7 since your tires are going to be so small (width wise).

I would also look into getting different tires if you really want to get these wheels. These wheels can really handle some meat and with the offset that these have your truck could handle a lot more of a meaty tire.

I was looking at getting the 16x8's but getting a 265/70-16 tire on it. (31" x 10.5")

Well to put a more meatier tire on, he would first have to get a lift bc he is currently running with no lift, as seen in his sig. But I would stay with the 235/70's instead of going 225. But that's just what I think :)

IMHO, a 245 section width is the minumum for an 8" wide rim.

As to 235/70 or 225/75, those tires are close enough to be identical in most brands. I'd go with whatever you got the best deal on in the tire you wanted.

Not sure if its the same with the KJs but I was able to fit a 255/70-16 with no lift and no rubbing issues. I'm currently at 255/65-16 which is OEM hight (29.1) but extra wide (10.2) and again, no rubbing issues with no lift. I have a lift now and as soon as these wear out plan to go bigger.

Tire wear will depend on the quality of the tire and how much "abuse" you put them through. I've seen $400 Michelin tires wear down in 6 months. The car was taken to the track quit often and auto-crossed. Great quality tire but abused to hell. I've also seen Joe-Schmo brand tires that were driven by grandma wear down in a year. Crappy tire, crappy wear.

A quality A/T tire, depending on the abuse, can last just as long as an All-Season everyday tire.

245/70r16 on my stock Libby Sport, no issues (but I'm really not flexing this thing much... I'm mostly on the hard pan).

No offense here. But what does what fits on an '08 Liberty with no rubbing have to with what fits on an '03? I thought for the most part for most people an unlifted KJ can run either 235/75/16 or 245/70/16. Am I missing something? Feel free to jump in if I am. In stock sizes the 225/75/16 is actually taller than 235/70/16. I will go with 235/75/16 because it is the tallest you can go without a lift. What is the offset on my aluminum renegade rims? Is there any reason to go with a different size different offset?

You are missing something ... Read the first thing I said.

A lower offset will bring the wheel out, giving you a wider stance, thus allowing you to fit a bigger tire without getting a lift. Stock my wheels are a +40 but my aftermarket wheels are a +25 which brings them out and off the suspension components thus allowing me to fit a 30" x 10.2" without having any rubbing issues. This same concept applies to KJs and any other vehicle. Maybe not the same size but the same concept.

I actually read somewhere (I think it was on this forum or a similar one) that narrower tires are better for off roading. For the amount of effort involved does going from 225 or 235 to 255 or 265 width accomplish any advantage? I know wider tires look more bad stupid. I know more ground clearance is a good thing. I see some people that regear because their tires are so tall and heavy with more rolling resistance. BRB need to fuel my brain! :) LOL!

I'm running Revos...P245/75R16. I have just slight rubbing at the pinch weld...b/c I've never hammered it down.
Plus these wheel's give it a more aggressive stance.

This shot is almost 4 years ago...right after installing the tires and wheels.

Now Mike, play nice with the newbies.

While Mike is correct, there are significant size allowance differences between the different models of the KJ (02-04 vs. 05-07, especially in the fog light doors) and the KK (which corrected many of these problems as you know -- except ask Mike about the bumper thing... LOL). To compound to this, stock steel, argent steel, stock alloys, renegade alloys, etc. ALL seem to allow slightly different clearance even though they supposedly have the same back-spacing and off-set. To add to this problem is that fact that every tire manufactures specs are slightly different -- all 245/75R16 tires are NOT the same size, weight, displacement, etc.

That being said, 245/70R16s are supposed to be considered a "safe" size tire to run on an unlifted KJ -- HOWEVER, my experience with an '04 w/ argent steel wheels, running 245/70R16 Firestone Destination A/Ts was that they rubbed pretty badly on the front swaybar on turns. So much so, that I ended up putting 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers on them to move them out farther (which someday will come off when I switch to 16x7 Soft 8's). Which is the point Mike was making about the off-set.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of folks who will give you their personal case as the law, which is why Mike was right to qualify his statement. The bottom line answer to any particular set-up unfortunately is "maybe".

I didn't know. That's what I love about these forums. Learning something. I didn't realize there were significant differences between 02-04 and 05-07 Libertys. I just assumed that a KK is a completely different animal than a KJ sorry if I was wrong or offended anybody. I replied to the aluminum wheel post. Maybe my experience helps someone else. Would it not be useful to seperately break down what works on '02-'04 and '05-'07 and '08-beyond? My KJ is an '05 Renegade with Renegade rims and the 235/70/16 SR-As. Yuck! They break loose easily on pavement when it first starts to rain. Of course I have lead in my foot! :)

Jeeps have a tendency to be a quirky vehicle, so it's always best to double check fit, etc. on anything. I'd be willing to bet these things tend to be the least universal of all production line vehicles - what fits/works on one may not work so well on another 'identical' model. I think this is especially so for driveline and wheel/tire fitting.

I always play nice Colin

mrneen, are you buying these because you like them or for the price? Reason being with the offsets that these wheels are available in they are made to be used with bigger tires. These wheels are going to stick out and give you a wider look but with the skinny tires you are going to put on will defeat that purpose. Its up to you in the end ... I just think there are better options for your needs. Something with much more offset will be better suited for you.

The 16x7 which is the recommended size for you will stick out a lot having a 0 offset. You will be better off to find a wheel that is 16x7 with an offset of +25 to +40. Stock offset for the KJs I believe is +40.
