Post subject:  tires, tires, tires, tires.... ugh
i am on a budget and i have decided on either one of these tires...


1. Toyo open country LT 225/75/16 Load D

2. Mastercraft Courser AT2 LT 225/75/16 Load E

and

3. Kumo KL78 LT 225/75/16 Load D


I think i am leaning towards the toyos... i like the tread pattern. however i have heard alot of people run the kumos on here. i am leaning Ginst the mastercraft because i just went threw a set of 235/70/16 within 30,000 miles... rated for 50,000....

i would rather stick to a Load D... dont want to be too stiff on the highway and over the bumps on normal roads. and etc.

any pointers on these tires? or reviews?

I ran some Mastercraft on my old Cherokee, did good rode good made by Cooper

Kumhos KL78s had a set of 255-70s on the KJ for a while. Put about 24000 on them and still had way over half tread. Were very quiet, handled great, did good in snow, mud not so much but got me around pretty good anyways
I sold them due to getting tired of looking at them and a great deal on another bigger set :wink:

for the money a good tire

im with tom... i sell alot of the kumhos and have heard alot of good things about them, and if it were my personal vehicle and those were my choices, it would definitely be the kumhos on the kj

would the kumho's be able to stand some trail riding, and light mud?

i live in rhode island and we do have winter weather and during the summer i like to explore the woods...

also, mastercraft courser at2 right now. you think the Kumhos are better than those... traction wise?

Not sure if you can wheel Kumhos or not :shock:

Have more somewhere going through some mud and water/mud so yes for light wheeling they will do fine :wink:

haha thanks tommudd.... def got me thinking towards those. you think a LT225/75/16 Load D would work for me?

i now have P230/75/16. i want a thicker ply tire.. E ply kinda to stiff for me...

or should i just stay with 235/70?

I don't know if the load rating is a deal breaker for you, but Hercules and Nokian are both E rated. The Hankooks are 10 ply which tire rack corresponds to E rated also.

i like the tread pattern of the hankook... what does the XL mean??

I have the Toyos on my Tahoe, pretty happy with them. I got around 16-19K on them, probably get 35-40 out of them. I can say they are horrible on wet grass, but decent overall.
Dont know a thing about the others.

Basically an XL rated tire can handle greater load than a P rated equivalent if you put more air into it. It is in between a P rated tire and a C rated LT tire.
