Question:

I called the tire guy and he said the Silent Armors only come in 8-ply and 10-ply. I asked about the 225/75/16 size.

Is he correct?

I guess it doesn't really matter, but I believe the cost goes up for the higher-ply tires.

When I was looking at those tires previously those were the two options available in that size, although that was several months ago.

I called a couple other places and those do seem to be the only choices.

The cheapest total cost I could find for a set of 4 was $778 grand total out the door (minus a $40 rebate). That was at Discount Tire. I need them, but it's hard to pull the trigger and spend the money, so I didn't make the appointment yet.

I don't imagine they'll have a half-price sale anytime soon. : (

They ain't cheap.
Goodyear's website will yield a complete size chart, I had one in hand when I got the set for my KJ. There's an LT grade as well as a passenger grade for those things.
On the other hand, when my Jeep(s) hit something on the road, I don't worry so much about a puncture or tire damage... I just get a nice, authoritative PLOP as it rolls over and obliterates the debris.
Compared to the stock minivan tires on a Libby, the Wrangler Silent Armor tires are awesome. But then, almost anything would be an improvement.

Well so much for my decision on the Silent Armors.

I took my jeep into the shop today for a free rotation trying to squeeze a few more miles out of the old tires and just ended up biting the bullet and getting a new set put on.

Ended up with the Toyo Open Country A/T's. They were $582 total. That was with $40 they gave me for 2 of my old tires that weren't quite as shot as the other 2.

Guess they'll be good enough for now. At least those stock tires of death are gone now. I'm sure I'll feel a little safer.
