I wouldn't get tires from Wal-Mart if they paid me to run them! Just my opinion.

Goodyear is the manufacturer, not Walmart.

jeepkj02 ... Just because Wal-Mart sells it doesn't make it trash. Goodyear makes they tire, Wal-Mart just sells it. If you don't want Wal-Mart to install them thats one thing but to trash the tires just because they are being sold by Wal-Mart is just asinine.

Here's more pics at different angles from another website, taken from
yet another website. Wallyworld sign says "starting at $150 +", so don't
know if the price is any kind of deal.

Have you heard of Goodyear Authority sold anywhere else...I haven't! IMO, looks like a cheaper knockoff of the MT/Rs.

I wonder how much cheaper they are than a tire shop. If not much, I'd go to the tire shop simply because I despise walmart and I bet the tireshop would mount and balance them at least as well as walmart...

Typically Goodyears that are Wal Mart Specials (IE the "Wrangler Radial", the Viva, etc) are made with lower quality control standards than the real-name tires you'd get at a reputable business (IE the Eagle GT, Silent Armor, Assurance)

There is a reason Goodyear ONLY sells certain tires through Wally World.

And the General Grabber AT2 is a knock off of the BFG's ... the Grabber performs excellent, has great reviews and is about half the price of the BFG's... does it suck also?

The good thing about Wal-Mart and Sams Club is that because they are such a big corporation they can have their own line of what ever they want and have it cost less ... which saves you money!!! This could be their line of Goodyear Tires. Goodyear still makes the tire. Goodyear is not going to put their name and reputation on the line by making a crappy tire that no one will end up buying.

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it ...

Lots of retailers have their own line of tires made by major manufactures. It keeps people from price matching the tire at other retailers, so the retailer likes it. The wholesaler gets to sell a whole bunch of tires all at once to a retailer, so they like it. I have four such tires, Michelin Destiny's, on my commuter car that I got at Discount Tire. They are great tires; almost as good as the top of the line Michelin touring tires. They last 60,000 miles, and they cost a bit less than the top of the line Michelin's.

... but Walmart is no Discount Tire.

This is the same company that pressured Browning into making them a shot gun with plastic parts and POS innards with the same model number as the quality part that independent retailers were selling for $100 more (but with metal slides and inner parts). Same model number, looked the same from the outside, but the inside was crap on the one at WallMart. They did the same thing with the "little red flyer" wagon. ACE hardware had the same model number with metal axles, walmart stocks the same model for less-- but the axles are plastic. You know, the old switcheroo... If Walmart can do this with guns, then why not tires? Reasons abound as to why many don't trust Walmart. The above are a few of the examples of product misrepresentation I can think of off the top of my head. The way they treat employee's would be another issue I have with them.

These tires don't even have the same model number as a tire made elsewhere, so you already know they are made to whatever price point Wallmart told Goodyear to make them at. As for Goodyear, they make some of the best and worst tires. I have had both the OEM Wrangler's on my Liberty and the OEM "Integrity" tires on my passenger car. Both of these tires were Goodyear's made to a price point. Because of my experience with both of these craptastic products, I will not trust a Goodyear tire built to a cheap price point. The fact they call a tire with no traction the "integrity" shows they have none. The tire is dangerous in wet weather. The Goodyear "Slide" would have been more truthful, or the "crash"... or maybe the Goodyear "hydroplane". Yeah, I like that. Those would be more accurate terms for how the tire performed. The "Wrangler ST" should have been called the "rollover" or the "flat"-- the sidewalls are thinner on them than they are on my mountain bicycle-- I measured, I had a thorn from a rose bush impale the sidewall and give me a flat. POS tires.

t I will likely relent and get the new MTR's, but only because the MTR's have already proven themselves and are not made to a cheap price point. I won't be getting them at Wall-Mart regardless.

Lots of manufactures brand for specific retailers, that doesn't mean they are less quality. It's happens all the time in the electronics biz. These could be like an MT/R for example without the 10 ply side walls. Lots of tires don't have 10 ply side walls, doesn't mean they suck. Walmart is the 800 pound guerilla for every vender and they will bleed you dry if you let them. There's no way a manufacturer will go through the expense of re-tooling an entirely new product for a low-margin account. Walmart tells you they want an MT/R at x price and they will buy x amount. You don't want to screw your corporate and franchise stores so you put a new name on it and remove any frills and you make the money you can, they can sell a cheap tire to their customers from a name brand source and your other retailers are protected.

Has anyone seen what the warranty is on these tires?

Mike,

Why are you defending Wal-Mart. These are obviously a cheaper, lower standard tire that are made specifically for Wal-Mart. It is nothing I would personally run on my Jeep. I would just pony up the extra money and run the tried and true Goodyear MT/R.

I'm not a big Wally World fan myself. BUT, who on here is privy to what Wal-Mart asked for when it comes to this tire? People are putting this product down based on who sells it only. Has anyone tried it? I asked about the warranty because that can give a pretty good indication of the quality. If it is as bad as some of you say it would have a very weak warranty.

Thats not entirely true. I come from an extensive manufacturing background in the audio field. When the company I worked for introduced amplifiers, there were meetings with top accounts about our intentions in this segment. Obviously, we needed commitments from them to buy these new products. One of the issues that came up was warranty; how long of a warranty will we offer? We told them we could offer whatever they thought best and to our surprise, they didn't want a long warranty. We ended up offering a 2 year warranty when installed by them and 90 days without installation. The reason for this was these companies made a portion of their profits selling extended warranties and a long factory warranty made that impossible. The amplifier line became #1 in reliability, #1 in dollars sold and #1 in performance but it had a shorter warranty than the competition.

Walmart doesn't want to deal with warranty claims either since every warranty claim is a loss of revenue for them. They'd rather sell a new tire than install one for free (I'm not sure if they sell road hazard plans). My point is if the warranty is less length, it could be because Walmart requested that not because the manufacturer has less confidence in it.

Remember, tires are what your Jeep drives on, if one of them blows up going 75mph down the freeway, that can result in some serious damage to your vehicle, or even importantly you can hurt or injure yourself or your family. Are you willing to risk that to buy some cheaper quality tire, probably made in china. I wouldn't, but that my opinion.

I don't know about you guys but cheap tires are dangerous....................

Refresh my memory. How many people are running cheap booty
re-treads??

I like my Goodyear dura-tracs and I think Goodyear is trying to be more of a major player against lesser tire companies. Lets face it they have been camped out on the MTR for EVER!!! Now, more aggressive styling and new ideas. I like it.

I really think that Walmart and Goodyear are doing a market study to see how well this particular tire does before putting it in all stores.

Again, coming from a major manufacturing background I can tell you that if you're going to test market a product, you start with your specialty retailers. The last thing large accounts want to deal with is being part of a marketing study.
