Post subject:  Rear tyre wear when towing (Mickey Thompsons)

Recently returned from a 7,700km trip into the centre of Australia, where the roads are mainly dirt in varying states of repair. We were towing a camper trailer (~3,000lb) at speeds up to 50mph with the tyre pressures around 24psi. Front tyres look great still (Mickey Thompson 5-rib ATZ in 245/75R16) but the rears..............well, see for yourselves.

Anyone else had a problem like this?

Next time I would try to up the PSI to about 35. Not sure, but it may be partially due to overheating by underinflation.

That or just a manufacturing defect on the two rears. I would try higher PSI next time.

Anytime you're towing, you shoul dbe up around max PSI in the tires, that's how they are designed. I agreed about low pressure and heat buildup.
I did a search, here's one of your mates had same exact problem.....
