Anyone on here ever run 255/85R16s on their KJs? If so do they rub a lot, or are they not too bad? Thanks, Andy |

how about ... they don't fit The only folks running 33" tires are SFA (or Jeeping Al's 6" lift) the biggest you can fit with standard lifts is 32" i.e. 265/75/16 or 235/85/16 |

Are you joking? a 255-85 would not even fit unless you did a 6 inch lift at least then better grab a couple extra front diffs. Plus with the 3.73 gearing you would be in 2nd gear cruising down the hiway to have enough power |

the 255/85s im looking at have a true diameter of 32.1 so i wasn't sure what standard height on them was i guess my real question is, will a 32.1 inch tire with a 10.2" width fit? |

Not wothout a lot of bumper trimming, maybe removing the inner liner, pinch weld of course, and a really good lift and the correct wheels |

how big do your 265/75R16s measure overall diameter and C.S. width-wise |

Goodyear DuraTracs section width 10.5, 8.5 inch tread width, 31.7 inches tall and since I have the BFG book laying here BFG ATs are about the same overall as the Goodyear 31.7 tall 10. 6 section width Remember going up that big fiqure in the price of regearing, yes you can "get by" but trust me you'll want to due to lose of power and MPGs also lots of difference in a lug type tire and a more AT type when dealing with rubbing. |

I have ATs now and they rub, the tires I'm looking at are 31.0x10.2 actual measurement, so I figure they should fit about as well as yours do. my regear will come in spring, so I'm gonna roll the stockers for a while after my lift I think. |

also, if I can help it I will be getting rid of the stock bumper and replacing it with a rear TJ bumper, so needless to say, about 90% of the front of the fender wells will be getting removed. or If have my way an ARB will be under my christmas tree. I also knew I would need to pound the welds, thats a given. I was more worried about rubbing the UCA at full turn with a 10.2" wide tire. |

I was more worried about rubbing the UCA at full turn with a 10.2" wide tire. width and tread type is big problems for sure with rubbing, looking at tires a 265-75-16 Richard Cepek FCII may not rub at all but install a set of 31-10.50-15 super swampers and they may rub like crazy all due to lug design. ( just using for an example) I still want to make room for some 34X9.50-15 Narrow Super Swamper TSLs for off road , of course doing away with all of my common sense, fender liners, and carrying a spare front diff all the time! |

the specific tires he is looking at should be fine at 32.1. thats only about 3/8" bigger than yours at 31.7", i wouldnt see it being too big of a deal right? but for that wide of a tire, he would either need spacers or wheels with specs like the moabs right? i know when i had 245-70 tires on my stock wheels, it was very close to rubbing on the UCA |

the reason I ask is because I have a friend that can get me a really sweet hookup on either 255/85r16 tsl thornbirds or 31x10.2-16 LTBs the LTBs will be less than 100 per tire... |

Thornbirds, and you know you are going to a bias ply tire with those. |

Nothing really wrong with bias ply tires but they will flat spot badly and you will have a terrible vibration till they warm up(after about 10-15 miles of driving),worse when colder. The big drawbacks are those pesky involuntary lane changes and they wear out very fast(about 10,000-15,000miles). |

Yes nothing wrong with bias ply just wanted him to know that he would have some issues that someone his age may never had to experience before! I was telling someone about them the other day and they had never heard of them, made me feel nice and old! Have to love the first 10/15 miles at 10 degrees with bias plies! |

Oh yeah, I know about the thornbirds, it's like driving on wet donuts in the mud. I had Boggers on my old explorer, so I know all of the joy of the first 10-ish miles, hopping along down the road. the tires I have now are poorly balanced due to them being cheap fleet tires, so I know all about pulling towards other lanes. my jeep pulls to the right, and my alignment is just about dead on, it's just my tires. Also, I don't know if I still have them, but i have some rounded parking blocks used to prevent flat spots, I used them in the winter on my explorer so the tires wouldn't get too bad overnight. Just got off the phone with my friend, he said I might be able to get hooked up on the firestone destination M/Ts instead. Anyone have experience with those? |

i have had the Firestone Destination MT 235-85-16 for over a year and a half with about 19k miles on them now, about half tread left. i couldnt be happier. i will probably get them again when these wear out. they do get quite noisy at 35-50mph, especially 35mph now with half tread, but i expected that with the non-siped big lug design. but i love them, awesome in the rain, snow, mud, cant complain one bit. wear unbelievably well, nice even wear |

Another issue that you might consider is tire weight. Most of the 85-series are all going to be e-rated and may weigh twice what a stocker does. Same with a huge-lugged TSL-type. That is going to play havoc with our IFS fronts, IMHO. ( Yes, I have e-rated tires.. |
