| Post subject: | Cooper or Good Year |
So i have finally... after a long debate... have narrowed down my two tire choices. i am eithe rgoing ot go with 245/75/16... Cooper Discoverer ST's or Good Year Duratracs; Also in 245/75/16. also, they both are not an E load tire... which is what i like also. I know that someone on this board was running the Coopers... and i am not sure who he was.. Does anyone have any feed back on these two tires? i have been reading the Duratrac reviews.. and from what i understand some people thought that the tire had a really soft compound to it or something to that effect. would that affect tire wear? i drive roughly 100 miles a day so tire wear does come into play. i do like to go on the trails as well as some mud.. and i know these are not MT tires... i do live in New england.. so we do get some snow here in the winters... that is another reason why i am trying to stick to an AT tire. thanks everyone for helping me out. any information that you guys have heard anything about the coper ST's would also be helpful. josh |

i have the duratracs and love them, they have the mountain snowflake rating which means they are good in snow. i have had mine almost 8k miles and have even treadwear and have only lost 2/32 of an inch so they seem to be wearing great. |

I'd take the Goodyear Dura-Trac’s over the Cooper Discoverer ST's any day. |

ive got st's and i like them alot, haven't been able to try them out in mud though. i know that they are excellent in snow, my dad ran them on his pickup in northeastern north dakota for a long time, i just went through 5 passes on I-90 from tacoma, WA to edinburg, ND and they worked great. snoqualmie pass was really nasty when we went through too. I just really like coopers in general but i haven't heard anything negative about the duratracs so i guess you'll just have to decide, haha good luck |

thanks for the replys everyone.... it is a toss up for me.. between the two... how are the coopers wearing? how many miles you think i could get out of them? i drive roughly 35-35k a year so milage out of a tire is important to me. |

mine are wearing fine, ive put about 5000 on them, ( i bought them used, but they were pretty much new) like i said before, my dad ran them on a 1 ton chevy and they never cupped or chopped, im not sure how many miles he got but i know they were on there for a long time, i like mine a lot, and they are pretty mean looking too. the coopers are cheaper than the duratracs i believe, something to think about.... price not quality, |

Is there a reason as to why you're choosing between those two tires? Depending on the size of tire, you can get the Toyo Open Country A/T in a 17/32 tread depth and get lots of miles out of the tires. They have good siping, they are good for the highway, and they are good for off-roading. It's really a good tire and highly recommend for people who want a high milage A/T tire. |

I put a set of Duratracs on about 2 months ago and don't regret it at all, and I was not a Goodyear fan what so ever... |

So after much debate i finally bought some tires today.... went with the Good Year DuraTracs... 245/75/16... CLoad rather than the E load DuraTrac. I know they would fit.. i was talking with a fellow Lost member, who has the same exact lift that i have and said that it only rubs on the front render slightl at full lock. I am just going to take a heat gun, melt it and push it foreward... rather not cut/ trim it if i do not have to. I dont think it was to bad of a price... 775 for 5 plus FREE shipping.... i can wait till monday or tuesday to get them. I decided that ineed tires desperately due to the fact that i was hydroplying so much yesterday while it was raining on the highway.... so i woke up todya and did some more reseach as to what has the best prices... i save myself roughly 100 or so by going with discounttire.com... they had free shipping.. where as tirrack was going to charge me another 130 to be shipped... anyway i decided that i desperately need tires today because it was a safety issue... i cant be driving on the roads, especially on the highway, ande being fearful that i am going to crash. I mean afterall, i just put in a lift kit.. dont want to ruin my jeep now. lol thanks everyone for helping me out. i know it has been a month long process, but like i sadi, i decided to just bite the bullet and buy them. Can not wait till they are on my jeep.... if all goes well, if they last 45,000 miles, then i would be happy... that is about a year and 4 months of driving for me. once again. thanks guys.. i will put up some pics... i(f some one can show me the link to do that), when i get them installed. -- Josh |
