And decided to try some retread tires:
https://www.treadwright.com/shopnow/product/tabid/61/productid/34/sename/245-75r16-warden-a-t-e.aspx

Image

245/75/16 Load range E $84.95 each x 5 plus shipping for a total of $510. I paid the little extra for the traction (kedge grip) stuff.

Quote:
Kedge Grip: Our own unique blend of crushed (recycled) glass and crushed walnut shell particle blended into our full grade truck rubber. Kedge Grip acts in a twofold way; first the walnut shell is designed to come out leaving small (approximately 1 mm) size pits in the tread surface that will act as additional siping and create more traction edges to grip the road. The second is the crushed glass which is designed to stay in longer and create a gritty surface to help anchor you to the road. Does it really work? Don’t take our word for it, read some of the testimonials. Also, check out the 4Wheeler magazine (though under a different name that we are not allowed to use any longer due to trademark issues) in the August 2009 issue. They consistently had excellent results with our Kedge Grip.

Looking forward to making freerider mount them out and trying them out! Will report back on how they do.

I have been eyeing those for my next set too. Tread design is almost exactly like the BFG AT's. I had the Treadwright AT-G's for a while. I truly think they had the best grip of any tires I have ever had on wet or icy roads. And that was the regular rubber without the added traction modifier. I only got rid of them because I need larger tires. 235/75/15 looked way too small after a lift .

Well about 1.5 hours after getting off the phone with people putting out a claim, the tires showed up. I left for an appointment and came back to them at home! yay!

I asked my roomate(who was playing wow in the living room all day) if anyone knocked. Nope.

Either someone realized the **** was hitting the fan and sneaky dropped em off, or something else happened(fedex always delivers early at my house, so its a little odd they would be here in the afternoon). In any case, they are here now:

This is a cropped fullsize picture from my new camera, a half-way decent lense coupled with the huge resolution allows for pretty good detail on the native image:

And for the heck of it a picture of the CRD:

Tires look good. Almost exactly like BFG A/Ts for half the price!

What happened to your hood??

I hope those walnuts do you well! Should start seeing more and more of them surface as they wear

those type tires get phenomenal reviews for ice and even some claim they stick to rocks like glue
