ok, so, i finally got my General Grabber AT2's (245/75/R16) a few days ago(came from TireRack.com a day after they shipped couldn't be happier with their service)...I've now tried 3 places to tery to get these mounted. PepBoys and another little garage (friend of a friend), both couldn't get the beads to seal...both of these places attributed this to underpowered equipment not being able to force enough air in fast enough etc. The third place i took them to was a GoodYear tire center, the same tire center where some lady said that if i really wanted to go offroading that i would need a 4-6" lift/should just get a wrangler. I brought the tires there as a last resort and i really regret doing so. They also couldn't get the tires to bead...however, they seem insistent that the tires are the wrong size for the rim (i know they're not stock size...DUH!!!). The manager there proceeded to charge me $25.97 because they couldn't get the tires on...she doesn't "run her shop for free" so she had to charge me something for putting her through the trouble of unmounting/remounting the stock tires, plus attempting to mount the Generals. She also wanted to charge me to ballance the stock tires that they had removed, but i told her not to balance them as i would just take the tires somewhere else. She warned me that there might be some vibration, which i knew, but there isn't any. Anyway, she insisted on saying that the rims i have are "8J" and that i would need an "8.5-9J" rim to mount these tires because the stock rims are too wide...when asked if an 8.5J or 9J rim was wider, she just gave me the "you have an 8J and you need a 8.5J or 9J" without answering if they were wider or not, as the number would seem to indicate. Needless to say, i will NEVER be going back there again, and would not send anyone there EVER. I wouldn't want to put anyone through the hell that is that experience. With that said...they also mounted two of the tires that they took off incorrectly (front of tire facing back of rim) and put my brand new spare where my left rear tire was...now i can just jack the truck up myself and change it...which i will do...BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO, it should have been put on correctly in the first place. NOW....has ANYONE, EVER had ANY trouble mounting 245/75/R16 load range E tires on these rims??? Please, anyone who has these tires or any other 245/75/R16 load range E tires....please tell me, where did you take your tires, and how much did they charge you to mount and ballance them??? Oh, i forgot to mention....the first two places i took the tires to didin't charge me a dime for unmounting the stocks, attempting to mount the generals and then remounting and balancing the stocks...GoodYear was the first place to, in the words of Dane Cook "f*** me big time"

Haha, as always I was there with savage, and honestly this lady lacks common sense. Not only did she mess up his tires, but when he left his truck there with these 5 huge tires in back, she didnt even notice them, not even when she drove the truck into the garage. She calls him up and leaves a message explaining how she says he needs new tires and she suggest $800 wranglers. $800 for FOUR not five. How do u miss 5 huge tires? she had to see or at least smell them when she moved the truck. she also complained how the tires were not going to fit because they werent stock size. Some people just shouldnt be working with cars.

I've never had a problem and I have seen those particular tires mounted on stock rims. I don't know what the problem could be. Goodyear has gotten sued more than a few times for screwing over their customers. I actually got a nice $40 check in the mail once as part of a class action lawsuit against Goodyear. Their tires are fine...it's the customer service that's lacking (as you found out). They've even been caught putting holes in faulty tires so they wouldn't have to honor their warranty...that's what happened to me. Since then I've always bought my tires (except for my Rubi rims and tires) from Firestone and have great luck. Even now, I take the MTRs to Firestone for rotating and balancing.

Here are some pictures for a little clarification.... Here's the outside of a properly mounted tire.... Here's the outside of a backwards tire....X2 Here's the wear on the tire they put on the left rear corner...which SHOULD be the spare mind you (still has paint lines on it from factory) And here's what they put on my spare tire carrier...

GAAAAHHHH!!!! and now i called sears...and they won't touch the tires because they're not factory size...just like when i took them to Costco...what's the deal.....if the people are willing, they can't, and the other people just plain aren't willing....i even tried a local light truck center...BUT THEIR MACHINE IS BROKE!!!! i just can't catch a break....

darn dude you are having some bad luck. I don't see any issues with mounting these... any shop should be able to do it. I wonder if the tires you got are wrong, or perhaps mis labeled. Can you get some close ups of the specs on the new tires? I suppose this is one good reason to buy from a store, don't have to worry about a hassle such as this

nope, they're definately ALL 245/75/R16...i think what's throwing everyone off is that they're light truck tires...and not a lot of people around here wheel...so everyone just has machines that'll do passenger tires....i got a couple leads from that local light truck dealer...so maybe tomorrow night i'll drop off the truck at one of these other places...::fingers crossed::

When I bought my 255's I had to sign a waiver that I was NOT going to use them on a vehicle that would see highway use due to the fact that they were bigger then factory spec. Apparently their insurance doesn't cover this so they won't put a different size on. I told them the tires were for a go-cart. No body pressed the issue or even questioned the use of alloy wheels with Jeep center caps on a go-cart. I would suggest going to a Discount Tire or a place that sells lift kits and tires. Places tend to be a little more friendly to bigger tires if you "carry-in" the rim and carry it out. That way they can't be held liable for what you are doing with them. Good Luck.

I got my tires at Firestone. They told me that they would rub, I said "I know it might", and then they said that that voided my 30-day replacement guarentee. So basically, because they would rub and I knew, I had to buy the tires no matter what when they where mounted. The point is, tire stores suck. It really sounds like your local stores are no exception. You need to give your business to a place with more customer service...where they listen. At Firestone, the guy mounting my tires said my alignment was out of wack (I knew this, it was just lifted), and that they "might not be able to do anything for it". But when I talked to the alignment guy and he gave me the complete low-down on alignment and my KJ is in great alignment. Point again, talk to whoever's in charge of the mounting duty. P.S. Joel, that alignment guy told me about your blue Lib "with red stuff on it". Did you get your Revos there, in Parker?

you should look for some mom/pop garage.. you know the ones. been there forever.. or better yet.. look for a tractor tire place.. they should have good equipment.. dont goto pepblows or wallyworld places.. they have so many people coming in they have to protect themselves (which is stupid they make so much $) I got tires recently but i had to go stock size.. my buddy's wife worked at wally so i got major discount.. they were not the tires i wanted.. but had to settle cause the goodyear stock ones sux so bad when they got 40K miles on them.. anyways.. check around for old tire places or garages.. some of those old timers know how to get a tire on rim.. and most of the time you get better balance too

Yeah, where you live must suck. I took my Generals to the local mom & pop tire shop here in my small town, and they had all 4 Generals mounted and balanced perfectly and on my Jeep in 30 minutes flat...no lie. They never said a word to me about my "tire size" being bigger or anything. Things are simple here in Kentucky...I gave them $60 bucks, they put my tires on, end of transaction. Life is great here. Sounds like you need to go to a different town and find a tire shop that has some employees that know what the **** they are doing. Good luck.

Are your wheels, 16's? What size are your stock tires? Measure your wheels to determine if they are definitely 16's.

Nope, I got the Revos at a Firestone in Denver, but they've seen my Jeep over in Parker for an alignment...they do the best job of any of the Firestone shops I've found.

Yea...they're definately 16's, it even says on the tires that are on there "do not mount on 16.5" rim"...I just can't wait to get these on so i can go back to GoodYear, take off the spare, and roll it inside to show that #$&!@ that she has NO idea what she's talking about....

What kind of a tire shop says "we can't mount those tires"?? What if you went to McDonalds, and they said "we can't make you a cheeseburger"?? This is insane. I could mount those tires myself with a couple of screwdrivers and an air compressor from Wal-Mart. How is it that they can't mount them with all that fancy equipment? You are right...customer service is awful these days. People aren't passionate about anything anymore. On my test drive I was telling my salesman facts about the Jeep I was driving. What's wrong with this picture? Good luck with your tires. If you get someone to put them on for you, you'll love them. I do.

I do. you got that one right on the money... i hate when its me that is selling the product that i am buying.. lol.. its great having the internet and forums so you can get reviews from REAL people.. and do as much research as you want.. (sometimes OVER research) but still.. you know what your getting now before you get it.. but yah.. the old timers at the old tire shop here in town.. been open since 1920's.. they are 2nd/3rd generation working on tires.. they know wtf they doing.. it may cost a little more.. but you get better service and i like to support the mom/pop whenever i can.. especialy here in the rural area i live at now.. ppl are just nice around here.. dont get me wrong.. lots of dumbasses.. but still.. majority of the ppl are nice.. hardworking ppl..
