well...depends on your area...do you really need MT/R in your area? Or where you off road is it more for a all-terrain tire?

So I was talking to my dad today and said he thinks the KJ looks sharp lifted and he really wants to see it in person when he gets back in the country. Then he said I need to save for good tires. After which he said for my birthday in june he'll go 50/50 with me on a set of tires!! I'm thinking Goodyear Kevlar MT/R's. Any other suggestions?? |

My list is- Goodyear Kevlar MT/R Goodyear Duratracs BFG MTR KM2 BFG All Terrains Where I wheel is either mud or sandy trails and dirt trails.. A lot of the time its mostly that lovely sticky florida mud. |

I was thinking that too. But if my dads going to go 50/50 with me I might as well get something good. I think my top two choices now are either the MT/Rs or the DuraTracs. |

think down the road too...mtrs will last about 20k at most. All terrains will last 45-55k, the duratracs (ask mudd) i am dealing with the mtrs now, and will probably have to get a new set next year  my all terrains were on for 6 months then gave them to my sister in law and she has had them on her escape for 3 years now

Thats why its between the mt/r's and the duratracs. I like the tread on the mt/rs and the muddy traction, but I like the longevity of the duratracs while still have a nice aggressive tread. |

I like what I have.. see my sig below. I don't know if they will work well for your area but for me they have been good for on and off road. they have a smoother rideand are better in the rain than the Goodyear Silent Armour that was on when I bought it. Good in the snow too but you don't have snow there. |

Take it from me, MTR's do NOT do well in sand. You said you had sandy trails, that's why I mention it. Even aired down, my MTR's were digging in the sand like dogs when I drove on the beach in Cape Cod. Almost made me consider going with BFG A/T's the next time around. Although I have the old school MTR's, maybe the new design is better? Looks like it might be. Just throwin' that out there. |

From the discussion above, it sounds like you might benefit from having two sets of wheels/tires. One set for off-roading (M/T’s) and one set for everyday and light trail use (A/T’s). I know it sounds kind of expensive, but Cragar’s are fairly cheap. And if you decide to make a long road trip, the A/T’s are nice to have as a highway tire. It doesn’t make sense to me when I see people running a nice M/T down the highway burning good rubber. On a side note: From what I have read, the Toyo Open Country M/T's do have a good rubber compound for high mileage, especially for those who do use them for daily driving. |

Well I think I can use my current tires and wheels for DD tires since they still have a lot of miles left in them. I see 15-16" jeeps rims on CL all the time for like 50-60 bucks so I may pic up a set of those and put the off-road tires on them. Maybe switch one the off-road tires for some DD, just to look cool :D
