dan seems to like his Nitto's on his grand

i'm not sure why i've been hesitant to use them, they're more along the line of what i typically run which is usually just a street tire A/P (with good results might I add)

i'd imagine they'ed be quiet, ride good, and get excellent road performance and still perform pretty good on everything except sloppy sloppy mud, and the only tires that excel in that.. suffer everywhere else ;)

i've still got two sets of tires to wear out but be sure to post up a review every so often, if they're avail in 255-70-16 i'd be quite interested in getting a set myself as I'm not real fond of the 245-75 size profile in M/T that i'm using right now, i prefer the 255-70 but hate the weak sidewalls on the 255's i have

once you get them grab the rear bumper and shake the jeep, and let me know if it wiggles all over, that's about the only question i'd have lol

Yeah, I’m trying to kill the stock Goodyear tires. I still have 9/32 on the front, 8/32 on the rear, and 7/32 on the spare tire. :banghead:

Nice looking tire!

So, I am currently running Interco Trxus 285/35-16. I have been VERY happy with the tires until I got about 20,000 miles on them and the noise has become terrible between 45-55mph.
Thinking about going with something a bit quieter on the street. I found that the Nitto Terra Grappler is made in a 265/70-16 (Don't know that I want to go to the extra trouble by going with the 265/75's). This 265/70's are an "S" rated tire (2469lbs at 44psi). Think this size and S rating is ok for my CRD? I have a Frankenlift and NO aftermarket bumpers.

Already talked to a local Nitto dealer... they were not super helpful...

Got them mounted today. Mine are in the size 265/70-R16. So far I am really happy. Only have about 5 miles on them so far though.

I was lookin at those in a 285/70/16 which is about a 32x11.5 but they are pretty pricey.

Be glad to, Diesel!
Your post is what turned me on to them. Didn't get a chance to test them out anymore today besides the 5 miles from the shop... And then I kept hearing my Trxus tires sqeak against each other in the back of the KJ  (I kept them to put with some wheels for true off road trips).

Can you post up your specs and photos with lock to lock and articulation?

I'll do what I can to help but I'm in the middle of a move from Baton Rouge, La to Winston Salem, Nc with stops in between so it will take a while, especially for some articulation pics.

I have not been off road yet but I am loving these tires while on road... At least so far. I'm pulling a 5x8 trailer on my trip and all is going very SMOOTH. But that shouldn't be a surprise compared to an E rated Trxus.

My rig is an 06 CRD Limited. My lift is a Frankenlift (Old Man E) with Al's UCAs. 265/70-16

I'll be in NC in a couple weeks if you want to come see it! :SOMBRERO: That might be quicker than I can get pictures up...

Hey Diesel.
I am still enjoying these tires. I have roughly 6 thousand miles on them. Several interstate trips between Louisiana, NC and Alabama. I am back in Bama now. Had a chance to do some wheeling in NC at Uwharrie and I was very happy with the tires. I had no problems at all.
Here is a picture from a pit at Uwharrie. This picture is from my second run through. On my first, my dog bumped my jeep into Neutral. I didn't realize what happened and thought I was spinning... then realized I was starting to roll backwards into the whole. I put on the brakes and was still there completely stopped. I then realized what happened and put it back in gear. My next fear was that I would get stuck trying to climb out from a complete stop. There was not even any noticable spin and the Jeep climbed right out. I was about at the position you see in this picture... (only this picture I didn't stop!).

If you missed the picture report of my Uwharrie trip, here is the link to it (also video at bottom of page):

I hope to go to Eglin in the near future... as soon and the Southern Lost group gets a trip together. It is mostly Sand there so I think these tires will do even better than my Trxxus did since they are wider and less likely to dig in... we will see. So far these tires are a great comprimise since I don't do a ton of off roading, it is nice to have a quiet tire for everyday driving but still get you through the rough stuff. Depending on the paved surface you can hear the tires but not much at all, nothing compared to the trxus but I am sure more than a standard street tire. Anyway, I'm very happy with them.
One thing to note, with the size of my tires, on stock rims, it appears that I do get the slightest 'kiss' against my JBA upper arms when the tires are turned at certain angles. Hasn't really been a problem, doesn't cause damage, and I have not done anything yet to correct it but did want to let you know.

Well hope this helps. If I think of anything else, I'll post up.

Update: one sunny day, around 17,000 miles on the Grapplers I noticed blood was starting to run down from my ears....! Yes, these tires became rediculously loud... Louder than my previous set of Interco Truxus! I rotated the Tera Grappers ever 3 - 4 thousand miles. At around 20,000 miles on the tires I went to a friend who has a mechanic/tire shop. He said the tires were the loudest he had ever heard (and he has had his own mechanic/tire shop for 20+ years). After replacing these with a set of BFG Rugged Terrain I really realize how bad the Grapplers had become. The ride is so much better with the BFG's.... Since I was happy with the Grapplers for the first 15,000 or so miles, we will see how I feel about these in another 17 - 20 thousand miles. The BFG's are relating for 50,000 miles so I hope I at least get over 20,000 HAPPY miles.

I see them pretty often on trucks. Glad you had good results from them. Wish I could say the same.

Post subject:  Re: Nitto Terra Grappler AT

guess I found this thread a little late but I've got these on my truck, they are not terribly loud but not by any means quiet, on road traction was good and decent in the rain, however I found that they sucked in the snow. I've only got about 30k - 35k on them and they are already needing replacement. I have not been happy with these tires, but that was just my personal opinion. When it comes time for replacement I will not be buying another set of these.
