Hey guys, building my rig for the snow (big snowboarder), so I'm looking for recommendations. I'm new to the 4x4 game, so I'm looking for options that are out there. It is my daily driver, so I guess I need it to be highway worthy as well. Gonna have 2.5" lift, if that helps. |

A lot depends on where you live etc. A true snow type tire like the Nokian has a very soft tread and will wear quickly. Most people run them only during the winter. If you are looking at a more DD tread for all year around them there are quite a few that have the snow designation. I used to think BFG ATs did pretty good in snow until I got the Duratracs, no comparison in the snow. |

For winter use I have Cooper Discoverer M+S, whith studs. 245/75R16. My wifes XJ run on Cooper Discoverer S/T in the winter. (And offroading in the summer). 31" 10,5" 15". If it really are snow and ice, I recomend the M+S. The S/T are not really good for real winter. But I have also tryed the M+S whithout studs in summer use, that is really scary... Not recomended. |

I've got a Frankenlift which is about 2.5". I'm running 245/75R16 Goodyear Silent Armors. They are very impressive in the snow and ice for an all year tire. They have the mountain/snowflake symbol on them and are severe snow service rated. I have had to get back in the Jeep multiple times and park in different locations because I couldn't stand on the ice I just drove across easily. |

I run Definity Dakota MT's year round and I've been very impressed with them. I've been in 2+ feet of snow at a dead stop and had no trouble moving. Summer driving has been good as well. We've got traffic circles around here and I have not had to alter my driving around the corners. In the rain the tires are pretty good, but an AT would be better. |

I have had many different M/T's. In my experience, the tires meduncan is recommending are amazing on wet pavement for a true M/T. I haven't had them for a winter yet, but I think for some reason my winter experience is going to be just like his.... I rode in a neighbor's F150 with the Nokians, and I have never seen a better ice tire. I have Blizzak DMZ3's on the wife's minivan... but they are winter only. |

Any real true snow tire has a softer rubber compound and lots of siping, none of which most all mud type tires do not. Of course we never have any real snow here in Ohio like other areas to really test any |

I snowboard also, and drive the Liberty to the mountains most every weekend. I recommend a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks for the winter on a spare set of wheels. On hardpack snow and ice, nothing compares with the Studless winter tires. On dry or wet pavement, they are quiet and nice to drive. Brian |
