I have recently purchased a 2006 Liberty CRD, 100% stock. I want to put larger tires on it and maybe do a mild lift. Not sure when or if I will do the lift. My friend has a 2004 Liberty 3.7L. I have noticed that his stock tire is a 235/70R16 and mine is a 225/70R16. Can I put a 245/70R16 on mine without having a tire rubbing issues. I know once I do the lift clearance won't be an issue, but I am looking at changing the tires first.

Thanks

You should be fine with 245/70-16. Maybe 245/75-16. If any rubbing, you can just pound the pinch weld. Then you should be fine.

Congrates on the CRD and welcome fellow CRD owner.

YOu should have no Issue with 245/70R16 on your CRD. I have the same on mine and I didn't cut or pound a thing. I have no rubbing either. I had 235's on mine like ur friends 2004 does, that was a size offered as an option when new. The 245's do fit and look great on mine if you look as some of the pics I posted in the past you can see that they fill the wheel wells a better and just look a bit tougher. I got Hercules Terra Trac AT. they were 50,000 mile tires and they seem to be wearing well.... I have 10,000 on them so far.

Go with the 245-70s, 245-75s will more than likely rub unless you only drive straight and go over no speed bumps etc.
Of course "some" have done it but why risk it

Would 235/75/16 push the tolerance limits?

Actually what you probably have is 225/75-16. If so, that is the exact same diameter as 245/70-16. The 245 obviously will just be 20mm (0.8") wider and therefore will look better.

If you truly want to go for a "bigger" tire, you need to step up to a 255/70-16 or 245/75-16....but like the others have said you will probably have some rubbing unless you do the 2" lift.
