| Post subject: | Newbie Tire Help |
I have searched this forum long and hard and still have not figured out what size tires will fit on my Libby . I will be installing a RockFather II 3" lift in the next week or so. I will also be installing aftermarket ION 133 16X8 or 17X9 wheels (wheel spacers if necessary) with whatever size tires will fit without rubbing or modifying the Jeep. I'm not an extreme off roader, so the tires will be non aggressive AT's (maybe Toyo Open Country). Can someone please tell me what size tire in inches will fit? I would like to install something between 30.5 and 31, but will go smaller if I need to.

With the 8 inch wheel, most likely your backspacing will be less causing wheel to sit out a little farther. With the lift and 16x8, you should be able to run the 245/75/16 no problem, the 265/70/16 also with maybe little trimming and little suspension rub. You can run a 265/75/16 but may require trimming and have suspension rub, but the biggest drawback will be you need to re-gear over the stock ration as it will zap power and quite a few mpg's. I think some guys run a 255/70/16 too, but not too familiar with that size or sizes in 17's at all. Hopefully some who actually run your set up will chime in, I'm just trying to remember what I've read out here.... like Rev Mudd!! |

With an 8 inch wheel you want to watch the back spacing real close, a Moab is 8 inches with 5 inches of back spacing any more and you'll have lots of rubbing 9 inch wide wheel I would never try unless you drive straight all of the time. Buy wheels with the right backspacing to begin with and forget running spacers, not good RRO LIFT? will they never learn |

The 16 X 8 wheel's I'm looking at have 4.25" back spacing, which should put the inner wheel about an inch further out eliminating the need for spacers. What's the problem with RRO? It's an OME lift, so what's the problem with them? |

Yes its OME springs but there are much better places to buy, from people who contribute to this forum and help people with KJs etc. Rocky Road has proven time and again that customer service ends when they have cash in hand. I would rather spend my money with AllJs or JeepinByAl

The wheelwells on the KJ just don't give you a lot of wiggle room |

You will need more lift then that lift will give you to clear any tire over 30" tall with that BS.You will need to run a 12.50 wide tire min for those 17x9 rims, don't expect to turn if installed on a KJ without alot of mods. |

Great thanks for the info on the wheels. After your comment on RRO I read several posts on RRO and the issues. I just got my CRD a couple of weeks ago and found the RRO website before looking through this forum. Haven't received nor paid for the lift yet and I am now reconsidering. The problem is I want a great riding 3" lift, just enough to fit decent sized tires and give a little higher and wider stance, the Jeep will probably never see the trail, so I don't need anything "extreme". Al sells 2 which isn't enough or 4 and the 4 is over 3K due to axle replacements. The Frankenlift is 2.5, but no arms offered. It just looks like the RRO kit is the right size for my needs. Maybe I will have good luck with them....... IF not, it's my fault for not listening. Thanks again.

10-4 on the 17's. 16's give more size options, so I was leaning towards 16's anyway. Thanks |

Plus you have a CRD and need to use the OME 790 springs and you can not raise yours as high as you can a gasser If you read on here and listen a bit you'll find out there are other places to buy without speding 3-4000 dollars, you need to dig deeper, AllJs and JBA can both sell you the same springs etc Just trying to help |

I just want to give an update on the RRO Rock Father II lift. I received it Friday and did the install on Sunday. Everything I needed to do the lift was in one kit with the struts preassembled. I had no issues with the install and the lift is really nice. The insane arms (upper controls) are nice and fit very well. The installation of the new struts is not easy, but neither is any other lift. The only problem I had with the entire transaction was the instructions. They were written, very basic and no pictures. A detailed instruction manual would have really helped on the front end. So, to sum it all up I had a good experience with RRO and would not hestiate to recommend them to anyone else interested in their product. |
