I don't see any threads that talk about tire sizes with the 6speed manual transmission.

According to my build sheet:
DEH 6-Speed Manual NSG370 Transmission
DHES Man Shift-on-the-Fly Transfer Case
DJJS Dana 30/186MM Front Axle
DMDS 3.55 Rear Axle Ratio
DRAS Corporate 8.25 Rear Axle
EKG 3.7L V6 Engine

I haven't seen 3.55 mentioned too often anywhere on the site. Since I have manual control and don't have to worry about overdrive buttons and automatic shifting, what diameter tires can I get up to before I really have to look at regearing? Any experts want to chime in...I'm looking to understand this.

Thanks for your time.

depends on how you look at it
With a manual tranny you have more options going down the road
you could run larger tires but when you hit a grade/ small hill you would have to drop a gear to keep the engine in the sweet spot. Alex ( 2006KJ) has about the same setup with 32 inch tires ) he's still running 3.55s but doesn't use the top cog very much I don't think
Actually you could possibly get by with going to 3.73 and a larger tire, would be like us with autos going from 3.73s to 4.10s almost
I just happen to know where there is a front diff with 3.73s in it just sitting waiting :-)r

Would love to have a 6 speed with 4.10s and 32 inch tires though!

Would you expect there to be a noticable difference in the lower gears "coming off the line" as it were? or would I just lose out at the top end at highway speed? I like the look of the tires you just got for Chris...but I know I'd have to do some cutting to get them to fit. I'm actually looking forward to doing some cutting...need to make my rig more personalized!

I have an '07 with the six speed & 3.55s.
I have 31x10.5x15 General Grabbers.

It is definitely noticeable coming from smaller tires, I had 27.5 inch tire on before I went to a temporary set of 32s. And woah, what a joke.

Coming up a hill, you DEFINITELY need to downshift, sometimes more than I would have previously.

But I've since gotten used to driving my truck with the larger tires. It is more noticeable in slow moving traffic.

Tom, there is a lot of mention of this "sweet-spot" .. where do you recommend this sweet spot is located?
Are you saying its better for the truck (performance, mpg?) to be in fifth at a higher RPM, than in sixth at a lower RPM? Especially if I'm just cruising?

Tom is right... i do have the same 6 speed and 3.55's.. and 265/75/16's (32x10.5's). I'm so used to it i dont think twice about it. There has never been something i could not do because of a lack of power. It is DEFINITELY not what it was stock. Normally with the stock size tires i'd start in 2nd gear.. now i always start in first. always. I also noticed that going from stock renny alum. wheels with BFG AT'S in 265/75/16's to steel cragar D windows and Trxus MT'S in the same size.. i lost a lot of power.. because of the weight difference. I dont think it would be worth going to 3.73's. If your going to regear go right to 4.10's. I plan on doing that sooner or later but honestly it's not bad with the 3.55's. it will be at first but give yourself a month or 2 to get used to it.

You're doing a lift so the tires I got for Chris will work pretty well they are the same height as 245-75-16s just a little wider

Thanks for sharing your experiences with you 6spds...that's exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like its bearable and managable with the 6 spd. I can always give it some time then do 4.10s down the line if I really don't like it.

I'm probably going to keep the allum renny wheels at first also. I know they're not nearly as strong but until I have the opportunity to get off road more, i don't think it will bother me.

Someone mentioned "welcome to the addiction" in another thread...they aren't kidding!

With the 265-70s on the stock wheels "maybe" some rubbing on the sway bar at full lock
something to think about
