Post subject:  Time for new wheels/tires
So I'm gonna do it! I'm gonna order the Frankenlift for my 02 sport. Thinking about what wheel/tire set up to go with. I've seen people listed that they go with 31/10.5/15s on a 15x8 with 3.75 back spacing. I've also seen that some people say that should rub a lot. Would going with the same tire on 15x7 with 3.75 backspace be safe(er)????

I love the look of a wide stance, but not at the expense of function. So I guess I'm asking how wide of a stance can I go without major problems. I don't mind hammering the pinch weld.

Need to stay at 4 inches, any more and you'll have more rubbing when turning, hitting the flares when you're wheeling/flexing etc. More than likely have to do the pinch welds anyways

I have an '04 KJ with 2.5" Frankenlift. I run 235/70/16's on 16 x 8 wheels with 4" back space. I Have modified the pinch weld.

It does not rub anywhere, fully flexed, fully turned (from experience). I think I could go to the 245/75 with this combo but would have to shave off some of the plastic on the rear door flare and fender flare and also heat gun or trim the front around the fog lite door across to where it ends.

There was someone on this forum that did the 15 x 8 with 4" back spacing and the 31 x 10.50 tires. Would be interesting to see what he had to do as far as trimming to fit.

If you have a Frankenlift and 235-70-16 tires you should not have any rubbing anywhere at all. Tires are too small for the wheels but thats a different story. Even with 245-75s you'll have enough room. You will not have to shave any off the rear doors with 245-75s or any of that!

Hi Tom, they don't rub, however not so sure that 245's wouldn't as the 235's and 8" wheel set up comes really, really close. The 8" wheel is because that was all I could get at the time I needed some and yes the 235 is a little narrow for this wheel, but it works.

So, your opinion on a 265/70 or 75 with my combo if you are confident that the 245's won't rub.? ( I know we are getting away a little from the original request) However you seem to have a lot of info on different combos so your input is appreciated and I also don't mind trimming.

8 inch wheel and 3.75 inches of back spacing is the killer
7 inch wheel and 4 inch works great
Now if you aren't going off road or up across curbs at the mall you'll be fine, or running lots of bumpstops

Just because some run a certain size doesn't mean it works good all of the time :wink:
Now for example here is my 8 inch wide MOABs with "5" inches of backspacing you can see where they sit within the fender flare now move them out another 1.25 inches and that were the problems start. There isn't very much room in the fenders for the tire/wheel to move in an arc,
