In my search for tires I call Pep boys about their buy 3 get the 4th free deal on Definity Dakota MT,s for as advertised 143.00 ea. So using my old school hillbilly math thats 4x143.00=572.00 minus the 143.00 for the free one equals 429.00 right ? then hows come my out the door quote was 787.00 minus the free 143 of course

New twist on the old bait and switch game. Had a version of that back when I worked for Goodyear in Bexley back in the early 80s There is always a catch to those "great deals" |

I was just at NTB to see if they would mount the tires I scored and they are pulling the same crap ! Huge sale at a great price BUT you have to buy the road sie assistance and road hazzard warranty and it adds a couple hundred to the price, saw 3 people walk out in disguist when they found out just in the few minutes I was here. False advertising is illegal plain and simple Stan |

It is sort of a scam due to the fact they are not posting it in bigger print, they are hoping people do not read the "fine print" Its all about getting people in the store, once you have that person in there 85% will buy due to them not wanting to take the time to go somewhere else. My sales speech even included that when they would say they were leaving. "Do you really want to drive 6 blocks down the road, with the traffic today just to find out that there tires are the same price as ours? Tell you what I'll do, I'll knock half off of the tire balance and we can have you done in the time it would take you to drive down to Firestone on Hamilton Road" |

There's always a gimmick. It's like the car dealerships that offer you $4000 over trade value for your car. then you look up the retail value of the car you want to buy and it's listed for $4000 under what the dealership wants. They are not going to lose out on anything because there is always a sucker that doesn't pay attention to that stuff. |

I always like those ads from the dealerships that say " Push, pull, or tow anything in and we'll give you 10,000 dollars for it"" Sure they are just being nice guys and want to help you out Guess what businesses are in business to make money, so they'll try anything to get you in their door and not someone else's

Its all about reading the "fine print" my girlfriend asked about a local deal 4 tires for the price of 2. However you pay for mount/balance on them, road side assistance and 1 year alignment deal. All that was extra but required for the special price. Posted via Tapatalk |

False advertising is illegal plain and simple Stan I know where I work when they have a buy 3 get 1 free sale it's actually for real,no hidden cost,no fine print,no raised prices.Heck I could have gotten you tires for $1 over cost,no joke, but that time has passed as of yesterday,I can't even get tires where I work for anywhere close to cost(for my personal use). |

I know this post is month or so old now, but the other thing I get when buying tires locally is when you quote them the price shipped from Tirerack or Discount tire or another online service for tires, they scoff at you and tell you what great service they are going to provide you over that internet place. During snow tire season up here in Maine, I dread my older relatives buying tires. They all end up paying 500 dollars for 14 inch studded car tires that should have cost 300.00 on their cars. I spent an afternoon helping a girl at my work buy some decent all seasons for her liberty. If you dropped a couple of names, like mechanics you were friends with, the prices would drop like a 100 dollars or more per set! Unbelieveable! Shopping for tires has become more of a pain than shopping for a vehicle in some cases. |
