I am in the process on deciding what tire I should get. I want a tire that will work well off road especially while in Moab, but also wear well on road since that will be most of my driving. I am looking at the Cooper ATR's in 245/70/16, or I could get them in the 215/85/16 which I know some run. I can't get the S/T or S/T-C in 245/70/16. I can only get those in 225/75/16 or 215/85/16. I would like to know how the ATR's run off road as they seem to look like a nice road tire as well. Thanks for any help.

I don't have personal experience with them yet. But when I looked at them at the tire shop, I was impressed. They've got the solid center groove to keep the noise down and handling better, but they also have large channels in the outer lugs to evacuate snow, mud, and rain. To me, it looks like a tire that would dig VERY well in the rough stuff, and still work good on the street. They're siped like crazy too. I'm probably going to buy one as a spare, and as I need new tires in the future I might replace them with Cooper ATRs.

I run Cooper ATR 255-70's on my kk. I put them on last spring and have been very pleased with thier all round performance. Especially with the snow/ice we've had the last couple days. Smooth on the highway with good traction for casual off road. I don't do any heavy off roading. Its my only vehicle and can't afford to break anything :ROTFL: Cooper has a really nice MT tire (STT ?) but I don't think its much of a highway performer if that's your main driving. Just my :2cents: Someone else can chime in now :-)r

I had a set of p245/75's. They were so-so. The traction was ok until the tire was below 25% which you could say about any tire. The thing that dissapointed me the most was the treadwear. I put 33,000 miles on them and they were bald. 3-4 32'nds. I'm not hard on tires either. You will take a mpg hit with the 215/85's due to load range difference.

Das4x4 - Thanks for the pictures and input those do look good and capable of some offroad wheeling.

onthehunt - Thank you for your input as well.

So I needed new tires and looked around here on the site and found many different threads talking about the dura-tracs which look like a good all terrain, but a little out of my budget at the moment. I also saw many reviews of many different "mud terrain" tires and all terrain, but couldn't find any answers that were definitive on the Cooper ATR's off road performance. They were the best price that I could find of any A/T tire so I was going to get them. Yes there is a but....My friend works for Firestone and he was able to get me his employee discount, which let me tell you is quite a hefty one, so I ended up getting the Destination A/T's in 245/701/16 and they look awesome! I will have to put some more miles on them to determine what my opinion of them is. I was hopeful that this post was going to be a useful thread for future Cooper ATR tire buyers in which I would be able to give a conclusive review on the tire, but I will not. I am satisfied with the look of the Firestone's and I believe I will be satisfied with their performance as well. I will report back as I continue to put miles on them. Again thank you everyone for your input.

Glad you found something you like and you can't beat an emplyee discount. WooHoo! There are several good tires out there. I'm sure the Firestone ATs will do great for you. They are among the top picks at tirerack.com. Give us a full report when you get a chance.

Happy :JEEPIN:

Apparently the ATRs have been discontinued. Cooper's website doesn't list them anymore. That's really sad...because the ATR had one of my favorite tread patterns ever. Open channels to dig on the outside, smooth rib for quiet highway economy on the inside. It appeared to be the perfect tire. A shame to see them gone...
