2007 stock KJ. Crappy steels but looking for cheap stock alloys.

Question, I drive 99.9% hiway miles. About 3000 miles per month for work. I love the KJ but the stock Wranglers have to go asap. Dealer put new ones on in Sept when I bought it so they are decent for now but are rough and awful on the hiway and have a really nice shimmy at 73-76 mph. Cooper HT's look good and have a good write up but are they too "girly" for a KJ? I want a quite, comfy ride but they look pretty skimpy in the tread department and the specs on the Cooper site give medium stats for handling and rain.

Firestone AT's have a great review on here and elsewhere but they look pretty "tready". The write up's say noise canceling tech but is that just tire speak for road noise but not lots of it?

I am looking for good in rain and snow and quiet "er" on the road. Rain, sleet, snow and dead of night I have to drive for work but I need to be safe and need to be able to hear myself think. Not to mention some decent mpg. Right now I am @ 21.5 mpg hiway and like it.

Thoughts on Cooper HT vs Firestone AT for lots of hiway driving with possible rain and snow mixed in?

ALSO, anyone in IN, IL, west OH, or northish KY have any stock 16x7 alloys sitting around? I drive all over IN and IL for work and will come to you. Thanks for your input.

I have no experience with the Cooper HT. I do own, and will buy the Firestone Destination ATs again. It is a very quiet tire on road. Great in all the rain we get in Vancouver B.C. / Seattle region, and that can be a lot in one day. Excellent tire in the snow. I rarely have to use 4 hi to get around in the snow and I have maybe 50% tread left on them. Tire response on road is excellent and for the small amount of time I am off road, they have done extremely well.

Thanks Kahki, with the 245 70's did you have any issues with the stock height? I am not lifiting anytime soon and don't need any fit issues. I don't full lock very often but would rather not beat or cut anything to get them on. The stocks are 225 75r's and I feel like I am riding on wagon wheels but they fit and do not rub.

Currently running Firestone Destination AT's.
Very pleased with their performance.
Great job in snow & rain. Quiet on the road.
Definitely not "girly" like the Kuhmo KR21's that were on it when I bought it. :ROTFL:

I ran 4 sets of Destination A/Ts, although not on any KJs ( 2 different Isuzu Troopers, a Rodeo and a Tracker) I loved them. The were quiet on the road and handled rain and snow very well, I ran every trail at Uwharrie one year with the set on my Tracker and they impressed me off-road too.

You are welcome Indy07KJ.

I do get some very slight rubbing at full left lock but that is the only contact I have had. One day I will pound down the pinch weld, but that was not needed with this tire and tire size.

I'm running Hankook atm's they are an all terrain but quiet , good in rain, EXCELLENT in snow, haven't had them in any mud yet. I got 235/75/R16 no lift, no rubbing. Good price too, $100 ea. out the door.

Just my :2cents:

I've been looking at these for my KK. All reviews look great with you guys, but nothing is mentioned in regards to MPG. What are you guys seeing with that on these tires?

I have to track my mileage for business purposes and doing the MPG was a simple spreadsheet addition. I have the mileage and MPGs from the day I drove the Jeep off the lot. I have noticed no difference in my mileage from the old Goodyear Wrangler 235/70 to the new Firestone Destination AT in 245/70. The Firestones are 2 pounds heavier and 1/2 inch taller, so I would not expect to see a huge difference in MPGs between them.
